... - mostly white-metal kits with Romford wheels and axles. The running of such wheels on "EM minus 2" pointwork proved to be a big improvement on the alternative BRMSB standard (00-BF) -- not surprising when you do the arithmetic. There was no thought at that time of using "EM minus 2" for RTR stock. RTR was much too coarse at the time, nearly all serious 00 modellers would re-wheel it with Romford if they used any RTR at all. When I was developing Templot I remembered "EM minus 2", so I included it in the gauge list, and gave it the name 00-SF (" 00 special fine"). A few years ago Dave Smith at the Carshalton club discovered it there and asked me about it. He was having trouble getting good running on his club's new layout. Or perhaps I remembered it and steered him towards it -- the actual details should be in the Yahoo message archive. Anyway the upshot was that Dave tried it and discovered ...

The ENTER key works if you select plain track on the combo, but not if you click the plain track button. I will get it fixed. BTW Love the "drawing program". Any chance of something like bezier curves? You mean on the sketchboard? If so I shall have to add it myself. Nils isn't really doing much development work since his accident. If I do it myself I think I would do cubic splines in preference to bezier curves. I already have a lot of code I wrote for them from toolmaking work. ... topic: 3116 MERG CBUS system posted: 24 Oct 2017 12:55 from: FraserSmith This topic is to complement the MERG DCC topic and be a place where the CBUS system can be discussed. CBUS has been developed by members of MERG to provide a means to connect control panels with devices detecting occupancy, operating points, signals, water columns, level crossings etc etc via just 2 wires carrying messages and two wires providing a 12Vsupply to power those devices. For a control panel one or more CANPANEL modules can be used. Each module can monitor 64 switches and drive 64 LEDs but only need 4 wires to connect the panel to the rest of the layout. For operating servos to change points you can use a CANMIO-SVO that can drive 8 servos to give realistic switch blade movement and also monitor 8 inputs to detect block occupancy or switch blade position using micro switches on the MERG 3D printed servo mount. Additional micro switches can be used on the servo mount to change the crossing polarity as the switches move so eliminating the need for ...

Lack of structured practice is the main cause of failure to progress. It can be hard to find consistent time, but that is what it takes. Even three, one hour sessions a week will make a difference, as long as you approach it in a clear structured manner. Templot's manual is as we all know very broken up due to the continued development of the programme. (Not a complaint). This was the main thrust of the last discussion on the subject and what to do about it. As well Templot's innate learning curve is complicated by a need to understand the real permanent way. This adds to the confusion for some, and as we are all aware the information is scattered and at times hard to locate. Further problems arise with different terminology and practice between railway companies in the same period and country, let alone different periods and countries. Martin, ...

I have not uploaded a copy of that plan because (a) it's a bit rough and ready on the NLS site, with a bit of misalignment between the map tiles at the south end, and (b) the plan dates from about 1903, at which time neither the down yard nor the turntable and locomotive servicing facilities in the fork of the junction had yet been fully developed. Consequently I have had to do a fair amount of plotting that involves assumptions about the exact positions of these facilities as finally developed. Broadly the upload represents the layout as it existed in BR days, but before the down yard was lifted. Hope this may be of some interest, particularly to S&D aficionados. Throughout that period producing documentation for the inexpert users of the software was a central part of the activity, in particular "getting started" documentation to get users actually using the software for something useful, as well as documentation for support of more demanding projects. I think this worked, in the sense that we had a large number of users applying the software, with every indication of success, and with a moderate level of queries easily handled by our advisory service. So in terms of providing documentation I think that by and large I know what I'm talking about.
