Would it be too much to ask for an audio commentary as well? posted: 1 Jun 2007 03:15 from: Martin Wynne Hi Cynric,> Would it be too much to ask for an audio commentary as well? Yes, I'm afraid it would. Adding a sound commentary multiplies the work involved in creating these videos several times over. There is no way that Simon could ask a question in the morning, and I can post an answer video in the afternoon, if it has to include audio. Sound also increases the download file size significantly, and some users are still struggling with slow dial-up. Another problem with adding sound is that it makes the file impossible, or at least very difficult, to edit at a future date to insert extra waits or callouts, remove hesitations and fumbles, or just generally modify or update. And I'm not convinced it would help. The idea is that you stop and start the video and replicate the functions of each step in Templot. A running commentary gets ...

I can find a way to list all the templates but that just shows the number, name and type. For things like turnouts the specs (type, radius, angle etc) would be useful to create a shopping list for track parts, kits etc. Many thanks David posted: 11 Jul 2016 13:07 from: Martin Wynne Hi David, On the storage box window, if you click the box> show cumulative box data menu item, you can see the total length of the templates and the total length of timbering. ... that are correct as to position, angle and radius and center of curvature (the later two being determined by the piece of track entering into the end point). That way a piece of track joined to that trackwork will correctly align and have a compatible easement- it would be too bad to have a fantastic bit of hand-built Templot let down by a poor attachment to the mundane track work elsewhere. One would not be able to simulate even to a simplistic extent a train running across the new Templot trackwork (including all its switching possibilities). This is a mode that our users exploit to investigate the operability of an entire layout before committing to buy/build. Now the internals from an operating point of view only matter from a XTrackCAD pov, and for the the internal look of the track work Templot is the master so we can assume that we have some adapted form of drawing tool that can draw over a graphic and produce a set of what are called track segments and paths in XTrackCAD in a (complex) compound turnout ...

One of the interesting things about XTraCad is that it appeared to allow for different levels in a model railway, particularly including vertical transitions. -Note that I'm not talking about the extreme gradients that Hornby Dublo, amongst others offered. My basic question is:- If Templot is used to create plans for a multi-level network how much 'fettling' would be required? For example I've observed that many large models use spirals to transition from one level to another. At sensible gradients could native Templot allow for a change in gradient? The application of these principles to the model railway is then discussed, showing how the block section method of working can be adapted to control the layout. In easy to follow fashion and with copious illustrations, the construction of signals and lever frames is explained, with details on how to construct a set of mechanical locks and releases so that your lever frame works in exactly the same way as the prototype. Included with the book is a CD containing the third version of the Trax program. Additional facilities available in Trax 3 include new track formations such as scissors crossings and transition curves plus extended drawing facilities. New signal types have been added plus lever frames incorporating full locking facilities. This will still allow swapping back to the previous one if necessary, but it should mean that in most practical situations the first one will be the right one. This change will also apply to the peg/align tools> put notch on intersection> functions. We haven't discussed those, but they are intended to be helpful when aligning partial templates. They also include an option to insert a turnout at the rail intersections, which may be useful sometimes. A related issue is whether to display the full grid lines in the negative quadrants? I've always found not showing them helpful. You can work in the negative quadrants if you wish, but in practice there is seldom any reason to do so. Having the grid lines missing is a helpful indication that you have strayed out of the positive quadrant. But I suspect it may have been the lack of grid lines rather than the lack ...
