... in between. The climbing and descending turns are a part of the required skill set. Established pilots continue to practice these, especially after a period of no flying, to hone their handling skills. By analogy, an exercise oval with "add-ons" (eg sidings) could be a way to introduce the basic skills to beginners, and as a "get back into the program exercise" after a user's period of rest from Templot. It could also be a convenient vehicle to introduce the more advanced formations (tandems and slips) It could thus provide a structured path for the newcomer, taking them from the known, the set-track oval layout, to better understanding the mysteries of prototype formations. An index diagram of the exercise oval, with hot spot links, could be used as an alternative method for the beginner to quickly jump to your excellent teaching videos. Such a diagram could be enhanced with links to the Real Track pages in the companion. Perhaps you might consider this when updating the "oval" videos to Templot2 ...

... , flare lengths, and flare angles are all infinitely adjustable. Not to mention that even P4 has an oversize flangeway, so the prototype chair sizes don't fit. In 00 and EM and other scales, the oversize flangeways and end gaps make a mockery of the prototype chair sizes and flare angles. The only practicable solution is to allow the user to specify which chair goes where, and to customize the dimensions of it, which requires a massively complex dialog and and an even bigger Help file. For partial templates in a tandem or slip for example, the complexity of the task falls off the scale -- no user is ever going to bother attempting it on-screen. When all that is needed during construction is to download one of the excellent Exactoscale templates, and use it as a reference for the typical chair types and positions. I think it is far better that Templot shows no chairing information, rather than wrong information. I'm still keen to develop the software for all this, and try it on a 3D printer. But purely ...

What does seem clear is that a movement to/from what I take to be the carriage road (PL156) isn't going to be possible whilst a movement out of the platform avoiding line (PL184) is in progress, and vice versa. Perhaps this is the conflict that has been identified. If that's accepted then a posible solution would be to make the carriage siding exit part of a tandem. ... this method is that it is self-indicating on the pad, it doesn't need any other indication of which templates are in which group. You retain access to the individual templates, and you can move them into or out of the group just by changing their marker colour and then reselecting the group. In effect the colour becomes a visible "tag". I've resurrected this topic to mention the new Templot2 sorting functions on the storage box. This is especially useful for a group of partial templates such as a slip or tandem. When creating the templates, give them all a suitable prefix (or suffix) on the name, such as abc- or yard-tandem-, or whatever. Then on the storage box the box> find and group... menu item puts them all in a group when you enter the prefix. This does require some thought in advance when creating the templates and setting the names, because at present there is no function to modify the names of a group of templates all in one go. I ...

I found it extremely distracting in the trial video! The main thing that I find lacking in the silent videos is an overview of the sequence to be followed- it took me three viewings of the 3-way tandem turnout sequence to get clear in my own mind how the different operations were related/ grouped, and then further viewings to identify the subtleties. So I suggest a (spoken) brief introduction followed by occasional comments as to what has been completed/ what is about to be done, and pointing out the less obvious (= less used?) menu commands.
