This would provide the ability to change traction on through running trains. In all honesty, I like operational running as much as the construction side of the hobby. I will have the layout running scheduled traffic under computer control (RR&Co) with the operators fitting in manually controlled trains. This means that the operators must obey the signals! Tandem turnouts are not simple -- it really would be better to leave them until later. At the very least please try a single slip first. If you watch the first few minutes of the transition-diamond video you will see how to put the fixing peg on a rail intersection. Note that for the tandem you need the peg on the rail-edge, not the track centre-line -- geometry> peg on line or rail> menu options. (If you are on a Mac computer or a mobile device, you may need to use the MP4 link instead.) Then geometry> notch> put notch under peg menu item. I couldn't for example get the move group to work properly so landed up moving my goods yard a template at a time many times as I moved it around the design.
