So Pre EWS and pre big shed. The rails into Chillington wharf were still used but the wharf interchange with the canal long ceased. Also the main loop in the plan represents the mainline between Wolverhampton and Birmingham. I've rolled the rails and shoved some timbers but I'm hoping that a few of you guys could cast an eye over the plan to see if my timber shoving looks ok/respectable/typical? For those of you who have seen my plans before you may be shocked to see I've even managed to get around to naming the labels, must be serious about this one! There is one REA point inside the loop, which I've put there on purpose as its likely that it would never have been rebuilt using FB rail like some of the other points. I'm going to take a step into the unknown here too, with combining ...

This function is called often, not only to generate the line, but also for the peg calculations for the various tools functions. turnroad_cl is called from the generator to create a series of co-ordinates along the turnout-road centre-line, and put them in an array ready for the actual screen drawing function, or printing, or whatever. This routine calls aq25offset to create each co-ordinate pair. Note that it doesn't need the angle k for this purpose. A few notes about the code. function aq25offset(xs:extended; var k:extended):extended; That's a funny way of doing it. The offset is returned as a normal function result, but the angle is put in a var parameter supplied by the calling routine. After all these years I honestly can't remember why I did it that way. It would be more usual to return a record type containing both values, or else use var parameters for both. But it works fine, and I tend to ...

... to make (assuming you have a lathe, of course). The trick is not to have them too large in diameter, so that they fit between two adjacent rail fixings without getting in the way. A roller gauge turned from 6mm or 8mm bar is plenty large enough (1 /4" or 5/16" dia) in 4mm scale. For use with canted rail in chairs it's important not to make the gauge slots deeper than the rail head. The radiused corners on the rail head easily allow a few degrees of twist to accommodate the cant. For use with soldered construction on rivets or copper laminate, you don't have the chairs to hold the rail upright. So in that case it helps to make the slots the full depth of the rail so that the gauge also serves to hold the rail vertical. This means that a roller gauge for glued chaired construction is not so good for soldered construction, and vice versa. Ideally you need a gauge tool specific for each. If you have a gauge with deep slots, ...
