... topic: 713 Regular and generic V-crossings posted: 26 Jan 2009 16:41 from: richard_t On an interesting thread on RMweb, Camberhurst (P4)- 10800's proposed home layout, you've written: For diamonds and slips converting to CLM is all you need to do to match P4 Track Co designs. However, for turnouts it's more important also to change from a regular type V-crossing to a generic type (template> V-crossing options... menu item), as that does make a noticeable difference to the lead length. But only for sizes up to the natural sizes -- A7, B8, C10, etc. Stay with the regular type crossing where the angle is flatter than natural for the switch -- A8, B9, B10, C11, etc. Is this a general thing or just for P4 Track Co designs? (I'm planning some BS110 curved turnouts which are CLM based.) Richard.(Having just found references to BS116A flat bottom rail!) posted: 26 Jan 2009 ...

However I have become aware of two things. Firstly every section of the Templot Companion has a line at the end saying "more notes here soon" and most are dated somewhere between Sep 2005 and April 2007. Secondly the latest version 091c was released 07.02.2008 which makes it very nearly 2 years in use, and there have been at least 2 important releases between 0.74b and 091c. My questions are:- 1. Is there a later version of the Templot Companion associated with 091c? and 2. Why have I been set to work on 0.74b when it was released in Oct 2001? I am sure there is a reason for all this I would just like to know what it is or have I somehow got off on the wrong track? ... from the straight stock rail or do you fix the Vee then gauge the straight stock rail from that? Hi Len, For a crossover such as this, I suggest working across from one side: 1. First stock rail, aligned accurately over the template. 2. First vee, gauged from the stock rail. 3. Second vee, gauged from the first vee. Take care to align the point rail accurately over the template, otherwise your double-track spacing will be wrong. However, accurate gauging is more important than exact track spacing. Use the metal gauge tools for gauging, and the track spacing can be set by eye from the template. 4. Second stock rail, gauged from the vee. regards, Martin. posted: 9 Aug 2009 19:31 from: Martin Wynne Paul Boyd wrote: OK- inserting an image from the gallery didn't work- try this: Hi Paul, Excellent pic. My problem is the scaled size of the background after importing it into Templot is incorrect. I scan it at a specific resolution (1200 dpi) and then save as a .bmp within the shapes folder within Templot. However, even after importing it and going through the dialogue box setting the correct resolution and 2500 in the scale box, the actual background image appears to be less than half the anticipated size? I notice a post advocating Loctite 435 adhesive for this but is this over the top? As the one who advocated 435, I ought to perhaps respond. Firstly, the switch area of model pointwork is vitally important- to spend 10 minutes at any "finescale" exhibition is to realise just how poor the hobby performs in this area- regardless of (or perhaps because of) the methods we use. In the real thing, the rail is secured in position using substantial bolts which we cannot replicate in model form- any weakness in the this area must result in the rail going under gauge- just at the exact place where it does the most damage. And I'm not convinced it would help. The idea is that you stop and start the video and replicate the functions of each step in Templot. A running commentary gets in the way of doing that. Also not everyone runs their computer with speakers connected or sound switched on, so it is important not to include any significant information as sound only. Others like to have their own choice of background music or internet radio while working. But the idea of an occasional beep or ping to highlight key moments is worth trying. Or perhaps that should be a steam whistle or diesel horn? Or maybe background sounds of ballast being shovelled, with a hammer striking a chair key at "key" moments? This paper is more commonly available in US Letter size (11in x 8.5in) than A4. Because of the effects of the printer calibration, and manufacturing tolerances on the paper size, it is unlikely that the printed page alignment marks will exactly coincide with the folds in Z-fold paper.
