... topic: 1476 Label shapes rotating posted: 8 May 2011 19:33 from: Paul Boyd Hi Martin I always hesitate to use this section because so often bugs turn out to be features Anyway, here's one for you. After 10 years of using Templot, I've just discovered the "make label shape" function which is brilliant! The intention was to use this to describe the switch or crossing angles on the printed template as a reminder of what was used. The snag is that when printed, the label shape is at 90 degrees to what is shown on the screen, and in some cases this means it's obscured. It seems to rotate anticlockwise with the pivot at the top left of the label shape, as far as I can tell. It doesn't matter whether printing is set to end run or side run. I'd really rather my background shapes printed out where I put them, so is this is a bug or have I missed a setting somewhere? Cheers posted: 8 May 2011 21:19 from: Martin Wynne Paul ...

Hi George, You didn't say how much text you want to enter or where you want it to appear, so the following is a general reply. Please ask again if you need more specific details. There are 4 main ways to enter text into Templot, see this screenshot: screen_text.png 1. Template name labels: Shown on screen pad: yes. Printed on templates: no. Saved in: .box template data file. This is similar to the print page map function (which is not available for PDF anyway), as a guide to the layout of the printed pages after trimming. The difference is that you don't have to remember to click that button, Templot keeps a record for you every time. ... . Following this recent discussion by Richard and Arthur: topic 370- message 14648 I have been giving it some more thought. I've made some changes for the next program update, although I'm still not entirely sure it is an improvement. Maybe it is just change for change's sake. At present the template number simply represents its position in the storage box list, so the number changes as templates are inserted, deleted, etc., or the list is re-ordered on the storage box. This can be confusing when printing templates at different times because the template numbers (the prefix on the timber numbers) may have changed. There would be an advantage in giving each template additionally a fixed ID number which wouldn't change, and which would be printed as the prefix on the timber number instead of the list number. So I have now made such a change. When a template is added to the storage box it is given a fixed ID number. In principle this is the same as giving it an auto-generated name instead of " ...

In fact in TDV there are now 3 separate clone versions of this function: 1. draws the output on the printer (or a virtual printer, such as a PDF generator), via the Windows print spooler. 2. draws the output on Templot's new native PDF engine. 3. draws the output on bitmaps and metafiles for the sketchboard and for the image file outputs. ... topic: 2480 print colour intensity posted: 2 Jul 2014 14:19 from: Martin Wynne Since Templot was first released 15 years ago, computer printers have moved on and printed colours now seem more intense. Accordingly, I have perhaps belatedly reduced the default intensity of the infill colours used for the rails and timbers on the printed templates. This makes the black rail edge lines more prominent, especially for flat-bottom rails. It also has the advantage of using less coloured ink. The colours can of course be changed to whatever you want on the output menu options, and there is an intensity control over-ride on the print preview dialog. Also, I have removed the rather obtrusive default timber infill hatching when printing in black& white, printing in a single colour, and for flatbed plotters. Likewise this can be turned back on if required on the output menu options. These changes will be in the next program update. I'm making these changes in some trepidation -- no two printers are ever quite the same, and ...

I find my own layout (18' x 18') is larger than the maximum number of pages I can generate in Templot. I have no need to print the complete layout, but find when I'm working in sections, I run off the end as it were and have to reset the page origin to cover the top end of the layout. Not a problem other than the page identification letters are now different and the only way to line it up is using the track itself. Not a major issue, but wondered if there is a way round it I'm not aware of. No need to do anything as I can cope with the odd few times it happens, but wondered if there is a solution.
