... However it is not advisable to curve short A switches very much, which is why I used B switches in the first place for this curved tandem. However, both of these options are likely to create other problems in the positioning of the additional V-crossing at 4. So instead c. Modify the check and wing rails to fit. This usually the simplest solution in practice. It is usually possible to shorten the length, or the flare length, or both, of check and wing rails without affecting the working performance too much, especially in low-speed locations in yards and sidings. You can also change from the usual bullhead bent flared ends to machined flares on straight rail. This is less common prototypically because it means making a special rail which can't be easily repaired or replaced on site by the p.w. gang. Here I have made such modifications. You can see that you need at least 14" scale between a V-crossing and the nearest running rail to be sure of a workable design: 2_031351_520000000.png In making the ...

You would need to swap the peg to CTRL+ 44 (press CTRL+ 4 twice) before adjusting the crossing angle. Even then I'm not entirely sure it would work every time, if the gaunt curve is quite short. You can align anything using the peg and notch functions, but generally it is much better to perform translations along the main road. So I won't be recommending that method. If you really want the middle crossing to be a different hand, it would be better to start from the other base turnout, and make it the opposite of that. regards, Martin. posted: 11 Dec 2017 21:00 from: Alan Kettlewell Sorry- it wasn't intended to be challenging- merely an indication of how little I yet understand of the geometry of these things. The motive power that isn't provided for is mainly just those that have non-standard axle/gear arrangements such as Hornby class 31 diesels( if there are any that haven't rotted the chassis) and many of the DMU/EMU's available that have a central plastic gear muff into which half axles are inserted. A good plan in theory as you do away with wipers for pickup by using the bearing cups to perform this function. I still don't understand check rail chairs being moulded to a particular dimension. That may work if you are used to setting the check rails with a crossing flangeway gauge but surely if you gauge the checkrails from the crossing nose then the gap isn't always going to be a suitable fit on the fixed check rail chairs? Especially so on curved turnouts.... I have On3 crossing templates on the go at the moment. That's the problem, every time I set out to make something I change my ...

The open-source versions can't open BOX files directly because of unavoidable differences in data formats between the compilers. As you have said on many occasions, Templot has grown over the 40+ years since its first creation, and inevitably, decisions made early on in the development turn out not to be ideal to support later requirements. In performing the changes to the info boxes I did try to make sure changes were made with the 'lightest' touch possible, BUT at the same time, any code being changed was fair game for re-arrangement or simplifying or moving to try to improve overall code structure. Obviously, some of the changes will be a matter of taste, but hopefully not too many. In most cases I hope it will be clear that the code has actually been simplified or given a better structure by the changes. In general, reducing ...

I spent a long time looking at different maps on the NLS web site to establish scaling factors for use in Templot. 2. Because of the different map projection, in order to get a match it was necessary to twist the 1951 map. The angle varies according to the location. There are tools on the OS web site to perform such conversions, but in practice trial and error is probably just as good for the old maps. I found that this one needed a twist of -1.7 degrees. In most cases Templot users will be using one or the other, not both, so this angular difference is of no significance. The finished track plan is likely to need shifting and rotating anyway for convenient printing and to match the railway room. p.s.
