... from: Martin Wynne For many years I have had an Epson 1270 A3 photo printer. Over the years it has printed some superb A3 photos and Templot track plans. But it has always been temperamental -- reporting errors, occasionally stopping in mid-print, refusing to start, making funny noises. I obtained the best-quality printer cable I could find, and installed it on several different systems. Nothing made any difference. It always compared very unfavourably with my trusty 11-year-old HP 720C which has performed faultlessly always -- I can't remember a single error or problem with the 720C, it is still going strong and used daily. Earlier this week the 1270 was so bad that I finally lost temper with it, and it was on its way to the skip. Then I noticed on the back of it something which I had not noticed before (or forgotten) -- a USB socket. When I first obtained this printer USB was in its infancy and I have always used old-type parallel printer cables. ...

... then you might consider leaving your plain track at 32mm gauge so that you have all that gauge widening available for your tight curves. Jim. Last edited on 28 Feb 2011 23:22 by Jim Guthrie posted: 1 Mar 2011 00:07 from: Rob Manchester Thanks to Jim and Raymond for the latest thoughts on the subject. I am not really any nearer a decision or clear as to what would work best. As usual though a bit of work to make a couple of turnouts and see how it looks and performs would be time well spent. I think it was Brian Lewis, replying on another similar thread that mentioned using 31mm gauge on straight track with 32mm on the tighter curves. I seem to remember he campaigned the use of 1mm flangeway gaps but I will haev to do the maths to see how that stacks up with Slaters B to B measurements. Thanks again to all. Any other comments most welcome. Anybody going to Kettering on Saturday ?? I will buy the coffee if anybody wants a chat. Rgds Rob posted ...

... ) on a recent Acer laptop running Vista. Whilst Norton has had a bad press in the past it has now (finally) got itself sorted- the magazine reviews confirm this. The February 2011 issue of Computer Shopper ran a test of anti virus programs using live internet viruses. They tested 3 free AV programs (including AVG) and 11 paid for AV programs. AVG was the best free version (5 star rating); the best paid version was Trend Micro (also 5 star, but beating AVG for overall performance). Norton 360 was 5 star (Summary: "Norton is still near the top of the AV pecking order, but it didn't quite win out over one of it's cheaper rivals). Incidentally, McAfee scored two stars and was described as" ...poor compared with all the other....". I tried AVG (the free version) a couple of months ago, but became concerned when at laptop start up I would randomly see a warning that the AV wasn't running and the laptop was unprotected ...

... gap for the common crossing. This is because the rail section is light enough to give the flex required for the blade movement. For larger scales a pivot is often used at the end of the switch blade. This may a bolt of suitable size soldered to the underside of the rail and inserted down into the timbering. Some use a rail joiner as a pivot but a means of preventing the switch rail moving away from the closure rail will be needed. For example, the over centre spring on Peco O gauge turnouts performs this function. The flangeway gap depends on the scale/gauge combination you have chosen. Standards are published by bodies such as the NMRA in the USA and the Gauge O Guild in the UK. I personally don't use a hinge- I use a single piece of rail for the switch and the closure rail with just a ...

... else seeing this? There is a known issue where TDV won't close without saving a .box file first, but in that case you see normal dialogs, and TDV closes happily once you agree to save the file. regards, Martin. posted: 27 Mar 2012 09:01 from: Ian Allen Morning, Can't say I have come across this issue. With regard to the online check, when I fire up Templot on my main PC I only have the machine connected to the internet for the duration which Templot needs to perform it's check. I then disconnect. When I close Templot down it does so quite happily. Ian posted: 27 Mar 2012 11:27 from: Geoff Cook Hi Yesterday I had a situation that caused TDV to lock up and was only available to shut it down by using task manager I was loading a .sk9 file into sketchpad which had been sent to me by email, when loading, a Templot warning came up on the screen about an acess violation, this had the OK button in the middle which I clicked ...
