... 2012 23:07 from: Andrew Fendick Hi Martin, I'm using Templot Dev version 0.98.a; OS is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit; on AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor. When working with a turnout template as the control and selecting the menu item Action> mouse actions: control/ geometry> adjust plain track length F4, the F3 (approach length) action is triggered. I can recreate by just starting Templot and using the default turnout control template that is set when you do not reload any previous work. The 'adjust overal turnout length F4' menu item and the 'adjust approach length F3' menu item both work as expected. posted: 14 Mar 2012 00:18 from: Martin Wynne Andrew Fendick wrote: When working with a turnout template as the control and selecting the menu item Action> mouse actions: control/ geometry> adjust plain track length F4, the F3 (approach length) action is triggered. Hi Andrew, Many thanks for finding that. Those menu items should be greyed out according to the control template being plain ...

Here is an extract from a Midland Railway PW Engineer's drawing: undefined 606_191437_380000000.jpg The wing rails have a set and then finish with radius or 18". The check rails opposite (adjacent to the stock rails) have a similar arrangement, but the end radius is larger. Is this reasonable to add as a third flare type to the 'adjust check rail end or wing rail end' dialog? Please feel free to change it. P.S.2- I'd be happy to upload a selection of complete MR P-W drawings for others to reference. But as they are 3-4MB each, ...

Yes, of course I have a function key list printed out but rarely use it- I did at one point think about making a Templot dedicated keyboard where each of the keyboard shortcuts had a single key deicated to it. You can probably guess how far that project got... I am still looking back with honour at the time I got used to using the INSERT key.... I must ask but what does 'Adjust Paper Bunching' do ?? Hi Rob, "Paper bunching" is a left-over from the days when Templot had to be used on very small screens. I seem to remember everything had to fit into 640x480 in the earliest days. I haven't been very consistent with the naming -- it's also called "pad bunching" in places which makes more ...

... to new users that Templot is not a 'Windows' application, but an engineering application that runs on the Windows operating system- a major difference. In my adventures as a software engineer working on everything from engine management systems to a web browser, almost all engineering applications were similar- you have to learn to use the application, putting preconceptions to one side. The need to do this highlights the limitations of the Windows user interface. The RISC-OS interface, where the mouse buttons are 'Select', 'Menu', 'Adjust' and actions/menus are context sensitive to any object the mouse was over when clicked on is far more intuitive (I was involved in a large CAD/CAE system using RISC-OS), but sadly RISC-OS is pretty much dead, and even Linux has gone down the antiquated Windows/Mac route. In short, one has to learn Templot as Templot, not expecting it to be 'Word For Points'. Cheers Richard posted: 16 Nov 2010 05:05 from: Martin Wynne Judi R ...

... for themselves yet. I needed several continuous check rails on sharply curved sidings and this method produces them at the correct spacing using the new module for adjusting check rails. Having already made the curved road, save it and then make a copy. Go to Template and 'Insert turnout into plain track'. Go to Geometry and use 'No track centre lines' Go to Do and click 'Switch drive mark' to delete the switch. Now delete all the rails except the check rain on the inside curve. Go to Real, 'Adjust check rails' and lengthen both ends to the full length of the curved track. Result, a properly spaced check rail with bent ends. Simples!
