... topic: 3806 DXF Import posted: 1 Nov 2020 21:11 from: Thomas Clarke A friend of mine kindly drew out to EM scale track plan of Eardisley station in Autocad. When I imported the dxf file into Templot it was the right scale but something weird happend to the file when it was imported as can be seen in the Eardisley JPG when in fact it should looked like 3.JPG. It has also placed it a long way away from the track template 1.JPG and produce some separate shapes located in the bottom right hand corner 2.JPG. Any idea what might be causing this to happen. 3704_011607_460000000.jpg 1.JPG 3704_011609_360000000.png 2.JPG 3704_011610_150000000.png 3.JPG 3704_011610_530000000.png Eardisley.JPG posted: 1 Nov 2020 21:48 from: Martin Wynne Hi Thomas, Welcome to Templot Club. There has clearly been a bit of patching and new chairs added over the years, and the crossings have been replaced along with conventional long timbers, but the interlaced timbers are still evident. Keith tells me another interlaced turnout survives at Helmsdale on the ex-Highland Railway. regards Graham Roberts Attachment: attach_473_waterloo-turnout-2.jpg 1239 posted: 26 Jan 2009 19:04 from: grahamroberts This is Keith's second image. ... topic: 219 Liverpool Exchange 1954 posted: 3 Nov 2007 01:33 from: Martin Wynne As I was saying, some great track pictures get posted on the web, without any mention of the track in the caption. This picture of Liverpool Exchange in 1954 has just been posted on RMweb: liverpoolexchange1954-1.jpg Note the abbreviated check rail in the centre foreground. I think the diagonal track in the left foreground is straight as far as the K-crossings, so this picture would make an excellent gimping exercise (see: Gimping a turnout for Bob). ... that although the file is a .bmp, the image mode affects the way Photoshop handles it. I bet this comes down to a Windows issue, and I wonder if Templot is handling the file in the same way as Photoshop and hitting the same presumed Windows limitation? I suspect the file size comes into it somewhere. This could be a total and utter red herring, of course I did try loading the scans into Templot, but couldn't replicate the problem there. There are so many variables though. Attachment: attach_420_629_Untitled-1.jpg 127 posted: 19 Nov 2008 03:43 from: newport_rod Martin and Paul, Thanks for your help. ... add cosmetic fishplates when its all tested. On a normal point there are only 2 'proper chars between the slide chairs and the rail end. While plastic track is strong I do feel that relying on these 2 chairs to hold the rail on thier own is asking a lot so my solution (purists look away now) it to continue the rail onto normal track bases. I always try to have rail joints in the middle of a 'panel' for ease of alignment. My feeling are that the red timber is too long but, given it's position, I can't see any other way of doing it. If it helps in terms of timbering practice, the track was originally laid by the NER but was likely to have been renewed by BR by the time period of my layout.
