... topic: 2163 Adavoyle posted: 20 Feb 2013 11:52 from: JFS After our local S4 Soc AG meeting last night we had a discussion about seminal P4 Layouts and Adavoyle( http://www.templot.com/GNRI/adavoyle.htm) was mentioned. And the question was asked about it's current status. Can Martin/ anyone enlighten us please? Many thanks, Howard. posted: 20 Feb 2013 12:21 from: Martin Wynne Hi Howard, The Adavoyle Junction layout is now in the care of the South Dublin Model Railway Club: http://www.sdmrc.hobbysites.net/articles.php?article_id=4 I'm not sure about the current status of the layout. As far as I know it is still in working order, and Tony Miles has visited the club a few times to help them keep it so. I think it has been exhibited by them at least once. David Sutton of this parish may know more. Tony's BRM articles about the layout are available online: http://www.model-railways-live.co.uk/userfiles/files/ ...

It seems to be competitively priced compared with Copydex. Has anyone in the Club had experience of using it? Any feedback would be helpful. Hi Richard, I don't understand -- that's only about 1:300? Surely you can do better than that? On Adavoyle Junction the main line gradients are 1:100 on easy curves and the Monaghan Branch gradient is 1:60 and sharply curved. Your gradients would be mostly straight. We have never noticed any problems on the main lines, in fact often new operators are not aware that there is a gradient. On the branch line we have occasionally run 6 of Tony's quite heavy coaches up the bank, although it does slow the loco down a bit. regards, Martin. posted: 17 Nov 2007 20:35 from: ...

... providing a clearance in the event any particles of ballast get underneath it. Hi Gordon, I could find only a scruffy sketch from 1975, so here's a new sketch. It's a good few years since I made any of these pins. They are quite quick to do, the groove doesn't have to be too precise, it gets filled with solder (stiffening the pin in the process). I used a form tool to make these pins in production: 2_060951_320000000.png____ These tie-bars were used on Adavoyle Junction (P4 21mm gauge) and gave no trouble during the 20 years it was on the exhibition circuit: ad7.jpg They are unobtrusive and can be further hidden by sprinkling a bit of ballast on top of them, and adding dummy prototype stretcher bars (we never got round to doing that). Assembly is very easy, because the switch blade foot locates into the pin dry, with a bit of packing from the stock rail. Then some phos flux, a dab with a loaded soldering iron, and you are ...

... I demonstrated the process and the results to Joe Brook Smith at an exhibition in 1986, he was overjoyed to see the final fully-chaired development of the rivetted plywood track building system which he had invented in the 1960s. A couple of years later, K&L (now C&L) introduced their plastic chairs and everyone lost interest in rivetted ply. I still have some of the chairing tools. I will look them out and take some pics. cheers, Martin. Hi Martin, And what a masterpiece Adavoyle is. I've often admired it (but only in pics unfortunately). I don't know, but I get the impression you might be bristling because I suggested you were being a theoretician. I know very well that is definitely not the case when it comes to prototype track and a lot of great models, but you are no authority when it comes to 3D printing. That's what got me bristling. I'm sure there are many parallels between injection molding and 3D printing but they are also different in very many respects. ...
