... it to test block substitution from a DXF produced by Templot, but that is not essential at all. Cheers, Andy posted: 10 Jan 2016 14:14 from: Martin Wynne Hi Andy, I'm very impressed with the way you have converted Templot's native 3D export with hollow rails: 2_030750_010000000.png to a full bullhead section: 2_021402_240000000.png Is there anything Templot can do to assist that? Also, obviously for 3D printing it needs some webs between the timbers. That could be implemented in the DXF quite easily by exporting the rails additionally as a thin layer at the base level of the timbers. Is that how you are doing it? regards, Martin. posted: 10 Jan 2016 20:23 from: Andrew Barrowman Hi Martin, Actually, I don't use the 3D DXF export. I only use the 2D export. I used the "sweep" function in TurboCAD (only available in the expensive Pro version unfortunately) to create the rails. The function works by sweeping a profile along a line, or in this case, a polyline. ...

... next program update, although I'm still not entirely sure it is an improvement. Maybe it is just change for change's sake. At present the template number simply represents its position in the storage box list, so the number changes as templates are inserted, deleted, etc., or the list is re-ordered on the storage box. This can be confusing when printing templates at different times because the template numbers (the prefix on the timber numbers) may have changed. There would be an advantage in giving each template additionally a fixed ID number which wouldn't change, and which would be printed as the prefix on the timber number instead of the list number. So I have now made such a change. When a template is added to the storage box it is given a fixed ID number. In principle this is the same as giving it an auto-generated name instead of "no-name" -- the ID number has no numerical significance and is simply a symbolic identifier. The ID number looks like this: TL123 where T ...

The first turnout to the ladder I have named "Ladder lead", the inserted turnouts are "ladder turnout #1, 2& 3". See the attached .box file. I notice the minimum radius on Ladder turnout #1 is a barely acceptable 47.2 inches. The minimum radius on the other two are 33.3 and 26 inches respectively. I believe that some reworking of the plan may be useful. Additionally, I have changed the radius on the inner crossover line to 60 inches. Hopefully this makes sense from the attached pictures. (I notice the plan has changed slightly across these two pictures but is mainly there to show the two baseboard arrangements) The main design constraints of the layout is to utilise the space as much as possible, whilst still being able to operate the layout via the branch line road when at home. Additionally, we wanted to create something that was simple, flowing and not to over cramped. The other limiting factor is the single radius on the right hand of the garage. I'm toying with ideas for a P4 test track and decided I should include a slip of some sort. Going for ease and aesthetic value, I opted for a 'double track with trailing connection to siding' sort of arrangement. Additionally I put the whole thing on a curve which transitions to straight track at each end. (the idea being that the test track can be tarted up and used as a photo plank as well). Due to the small size, one turnout and the slip lie within a transition. What I want is for the diverging route of the lower turnout to be completely straight, and I'd prefer a B8 (ish) or something that doesn't require a switched diamond within the slip. I have no idea how to get ...

Starting after hour 2, minute 54 and 55 seconds and then more frequently beyond that, shows a 'cab view' through the back power car of an ICE train running along TGV tracks. The high speed turnouts have swing-nose crossings AND check rails. Seems to be 'de rigueur' on 250-300 kph TVG trackage. Similar videos also exist on YouTube. Additionally, this Vossloh Cogifer advertisement:( http://vossloh-innotrans.com/media/downloads/pdfs/vco/Vossloh_Cogifer_multimoteur_GB.pdf ), page 4, last image, shows another example of this type of seemingly prophylactic design. Yet it could to be more than an over engineered situation. Considerations of wear reduction by reducing stress on components seems a rational possibility. Your not too far out with the date, in actual fact from some sparse records I have, the tracks started being relayed and upgraded in 1895, which was also the time they changed the length of rail to 60ft with 24 sleepers per length, this length was recommended at that time to replace all running tracks, until other changes were made during the LMS days after 1923..
