... topic: 700 Settlebeck Gill posted: 17 Jan 2009 13:31 from: Alberta, Hi all i have been toying with the idea of a Em layout based on the Settle& Carlisle line with a fictious branch somewhere between Dent& Ais Gill. I have been playing around with templot for sometime now& this is the first thing i am completly happy with. It is a minimum space layout with everything curving to fit into a 6ft ish sqaure. With Hornby making the skaledale east building range which look very much like the buildings at Dent it should set the scene off really well. Era wise it is 1960,s with black 5,s 4f,s, ivatts& fairburns doing the rounds on local passenger& freight. I have uploaded the file below any feedback welcome because i am new to templot their might be something i have not done correctly. I have recently been involved in a project& im trying to get the correct scale& size of a particular site. I used the google maps& managed to crudley get a rough dimension of the area to be modelled. I am& always have been terrible with maths it has never been a strong point so i wondered if anyone here could help me out to scale this size. The key to the google maps was a inch= 200ft Now my measuring with a tape gave me these measurements 2inch= 400ft 3inch= 600ft 6.5inch= 1300ft Now how do i scale these down to 4mm to 1ft& what would the above measurements be in ft& inchs once calculated because i,ve been sat here with a pen& paper trying for dear life& tearing my hair out at the same time Thanks Alberta. posted: 26 Jan 2009 14:58 from: ...

... topic: 754 Modellers block. posted: 6 Mar 2009 13:42 from: Alberta, I am in need of some help guys im really struggling fullstop for something to build. I was going to do some kind of steam layout but decided to shelve the idea for now because i want my steam layout to be a large scale model& for now i cant gain access to the attic to start work on it. Last weekend i cleared my model cupboard out& found a rather large amount of modern image locos& i do still enjoy the modern network when i go to photo steam so i thought why not build a reasonable portable layout modern image. I really used to enjoy visits to Birmingham when i was young with my dad because of all the urban sprawl& so many different locos& trains to see so i was thinking maybe a modern image layout based on a prototype in Birmingham. Space wise i have about 12ft x 2ft none inclusive of fiddle yards. Can anyone help me with my quest to find something modelable& with ...

I not attempted a layout before in EM gauge& decided to go with something small& something that wont cost me the earth if i mess up. Now i have drawn this plan in templot which i intend to build as a GWR station in rural somerset. I am quite happy with the plan but wondered if the timbering between the two crossings was correct. Can anyone help me correct them as i am unsure how to set them up correctly. Thanks Alberta. Please remember that the cost of acquiring the Templot Licence is far less than what you would pay for other softwares, including Microsoft products, and that Martin has not asked for any additional fees with each new PUG. ... topic: 757 Langley green. posted: 8 Mar 2009 19:13 from: Alberta, Can anyone help me with a trackplan of Langley Green when it had all its trackwork& the junction. After my thread about modellers block& the replys i got i did a bit of research into the stations mentioned& found Langley Green a possible place to base my model. I know their was a junction their once upon a time& a goods yard further down the line which could warrant me to use the trackplan& make a fictious station in Birmingham with plenty of freight opperations& maybe a bit of shunting to some kind of business. I think the plan has potential& after using Google maps& the metric calculator in Templot it works out at 9ft from the tip of the station to the road bridge which gives me 2 scenic breaks& keeping it small sized. After my thread about rialways around Brum& various brain storms i have come up with this ''Walsall stadium''. For starters i used google earth& this site plus http://www.railaroundbirmingham.co.uk/ for information on the railways of Birmingham. Using the geography of Langley Greens station& surrounding area i have managed to fit in what i hope to be a intresting prototype. I have thought long& hard about the types of traffic i want to run on the layout& in my head visualise the overall size of the layout. Firstly i wanted to have some fo the typical locos seen around Birmingham today Sprinters, Turbostars, XC Voyagers, 37,s ,47,s 56,s& 66,s. I also wanted to feature intresting operation& i though that the way locos are turned at Warrington was a intresting way of getting them pointing in the right direction ...

I have found it most helpful to watch your video tutorials and then make up my own printed (with screen shot pictures) tutorials.
