... ... templot1.jpg It took a bit of skewing and stretching but I'm very pleased with the result. I'm going to work out more accurate stretcher bar locations and confirm the track centres of the 4 lines within the Brunel part of the shed next. The track centres are important as supporting columns for the drawing offices above were located between the lines in the original carriage/ loco shed part. I'm still new to Templot really so any tips or suggests would be gratefully received. I hope to keep you posted! Cheers, Alex originally dated: 2008-03-11 00:12:43____ from: Paul Boyd Looks like an interesting project. I lived in Bristol for most of my life until I managed to escape, and I think it's a shame and somewhat ironic that the old station is just a car park now. As far as track spacing goes, this was originally built with broad gauge, and I vaguely remember seeing an engraving that shows four broad gauge tracks, so that should give you an idea. ...

... . Suspect in both cases it's well within acceptable tolerances, and a small amount of end float may add a tad of flexibility; certainly you don't want things too tight. Nigel, It depends on the wheel and track standards you are using. That much wheel wobble can be an embarrassment if the wobble goes the wrong way at a crossing nose on the (close to) exact scale setups. And with some automatic coupling systems, they look for minimal end float on a vehicle's axles to ensure coupling- such as the Alex Jackson design. But it would be interesting to see what happens on an exact scale setup- P4, S scale, Scale7. I believe that you can get small camera recorders which can be housed on a model wagon and be used to record what happens on board. I believe they record to onboard memory that is played out afterwards. Well, I'll stick my hand up and say that I don't learn best by reading but by doing. Probably why I was crap at school in theoretical subjects but did well in practical subjects, and why I'm working in the "doing" part of engineering! A very recent example- I've just bought the Turner jig for making Alex Jackson couplings. I read the instructions before it arrived on how to make the jig, and on how to make the couplings. I couldn't make head nor tail of it all. The jig arrived, I built it and could then see how it works and was turning out AJ hooks in the blink of an eye- I filed the instructions But that message is excellently written and perfectly clear. ... I enlarged the outer branch facilities at the junction as the original was extremely cramped. I see that you did the same in the XTrkCad design. I commandeered the top left corner for the MPD area (or a diesel refuelling area) with a turntable to allow the use of tender engines on the branches. That released the top right corner for the goods yard. It's really too far to reach across comfortably, but there isn't room on the inside with your reduced board width. So it will need auto couplings such as Alex Jacksons to shunt the yard. I imagine a girder overbridge for the station access road as shown. The station building could be an impressive two-storey structure on the platform with access at the upper level. At the branch station the kink in the platform will need some scenic explanation. For example a church and/or graveyard may have prevented the railway taking a straight route through the town. The real reason for the kink of course is to maximise the length of the gradients on the left, and to reduce ...

I had hoped that the EWriter format with content updated from the server was the answer, especially with its ability to integrate directly with the program: "click here to see this happen now". But getting it to appear crisp dpi-aware at a suitable size on everything from a tablet to a widescreen monitor is too much of a headache. It's no good if it appears all fuzzy with no way for the user to correct it. If Alex Halser at EC-Software ever makes the source available, so that I can force it dpi-aware and scale it to match the Templot program sizing, I will look at going back to it. So the web format seems the best option, and using an old-style frameset I can link context help from the program to a specific tab.
