... topic: 3461 more Xplains posted: 21 Jul 2019 13:45 from: Martin Wynne I mentioned a while ago that Tim and Alexander at EC-Software have come up with a new tool for creating program help. They have now upgraded it, which means it now looks even better as an alternative to the fuzzy MP4 screen video. My last example wasn't entirely relevant, so here is an "Xplain" more recognisably Templot: http://85a.uk/hand_xplain/ I have 3 questions: 1. would you be happy to see the existing video format replaced with this format? 2. should the accompanying text explanation be in the Xplain itself, or on the page below it? 3. should a page consist of several short Xplains like this, or a much longer one more like a video? p.s. you will notice a change to the quick-access buttons for the next program update. I've been finding myself hesitating over the existing abbreviated ones to click the right one. More grey cells gone. cheers, Martin ...

... topic: 2395 Try this for me? posted: 1 Feb 2014 20:01 from: Martin Wynne As you know, we have the beginnings of a new Templot Companion web site at: http://templot.com/companion/index.html Alexander at EC Software has now produced a nifty new package to create a replacement for the ageing E-Book executable format. It seems to me that this has the potential to become a much-needed alternative to the old Microsoft HTML Help( .chm) format. The main advantage over the web-based format is that each call from within the Templot program would open in the same window, which you can resize and minimize independently of your browser. The disadvantage of the web-based format is that each call opens a fresh browser tab or window. Now that most folks have broadband, there is not the size problem when including the entire docs in each update download as there once was, so you might like to try downloading and running this test (20MB): http:/ ...

... could be viewed perfectly well on a Windows computer (I use Chrome) then that would be fine. I use a computer, a tablet and a smartphone for web browsing but much prefer the larger screen on the computer and choose to use that when at home. posted: 25 May 2016 00:28 from: Martin Wynne Bill Eaton wrote: I will be the odd one out (so far) and say that for viewing on the computer I prefer the desktop version. Thanks for all the comments. Tim and Alexander at EC-Software have this week released a software upgrade which makes the embedded EXE option much more useful and flexible. It will now be possible to update the content frequently, in a similar way to the FBR videos on the watch a video> menu. I'm quite excited about this, because it means the FBR videos can be linked directly, and other helper executables and interactive tutorials. It's not possible to do that in a browser, the videos must be in the smudgy MP4 format, streamed from the server ...
