... topic: 1527 My Magnum Opus posted: 4 Jun 2011 21:03 from: NeilD Hi All, Attached is my initial plan for my magnum opus, based on Crianlarich Station on the West Highland Line, with the intention of building it to reflect its NBR days. This is intended to be a P4 layout. (For those of you who model in "N gauge" you may be familiar with the Loch Oran layout by David Harrison, which is also based on Crianlarich.) I'd appreciate any comments and Peer Reviews (although many of you are far too good for me to call you peers). I particularly have a problem with template no. 30, "Goods Sidings" which is a transition curve and shows a minimum radius of 12.6 inches! It would be possible to move this closer to the main lines but I'd prefer to keep the distance to remain closer to the prototype layout. Don't worry about the runaround loops- they may never get built: it's the station and goods and maintenance sidings that need to be ...

I am starting track planning now so I can spend the next few months learning to build trackwork and then when the trackplan is completed hopefully produce some turnouts to put in store for the actual build. For the plain track; I am currently leaning towards DCC Concepts 'Legacy' flexi-track. I have spent much of Christmas on the steep learning curve for Templot and have created my first track plan( attached). I know that it is far from perfect having used some crude techniques to fit it together which hopefully can be improved on as my understanding of this fairly complex program increases. It is based on Huddersfield but with sufficient modifications that it could not reasonably keep the name( and I certainly do not have the skills to scratch build the magnificent main station building), hence the working name of 'Ravensfield'...Ravensthorpe is a small station between Huddersfield and Leeds. Closing right in shows there are double lines to the right hand rail in this shot. Selecting that rail only picks the two inner white lines on the rail and leaves the two outer lines in red untouched. This double rail effect covers the whole length of rail down to H17 and prints fine on all the other sheets. I have recently been working on a project with a friend of mine, who has recently started out in 7mm. As you will see from the attached photo and file. The project consists of two parts; a permanent fixed running loop with fiddle yard and a integrated layout that has been designed to exhibit. The outside loop, which contains a double slip, two points and a passing loop on one side and a ladder fiddleyard on the other side. This has been designed based on 32mm Peco track work, this part of the layout has already been built and is just about up and running.
