I am replacing Peco Switches which are operated by either Peco or SEEP motors, both of which work satisfactorily on the Peco Switches but which I feel will be a bit sudden for what I want to do. Would these motors be powerful enough to bend the points to the necesseray curve and hold them in place? I suspect the locking mechanism would fail. Are there any recommendations for alternatives? 3.How are the tiebars attached? Obviously they must be insulated electrically. ... break at the heel? Are there issues/cautions needed when track cleaning? Sounds interesting. Kind regards Andrew Hi Andrew 528_151428_480000000.jpg There is indeed an electrical break at the heel, visible on the right of the pic. There is a dropper soldered to the underside of each rail (before laying), just to the left of the loose heel chairs, which passes straight through the baseboard. The switches are laid simply by gluing the heel chair to the timber. After that, the tiebar (gapped PCB strip) is attached, by means of bent brass pins which pivot in the the tiebar and are soldered to the switch rails. The chairs are standard plain track chairs made by a member of the 3mm Society for members; they are fairly robust. The Society now has finer detail chairs which are possibly not as strong, but in tests I've done of them I think they're fine for this purpose. Nigel Edit: would add that the switches are longer than prototype, as you'd expect. The heel chairs and the adjacent chair are carved ...

210. Old Rail?
... topic: 520 Old Rail? posted: 11 Aug 2008 02:43 from: GeoffJones A question for our historians, but nothing to do with Templot I recently moved to the village of Pontesbury in Shropshire and walking the dog along the old railway track near Pontesbury station I have noticed the remains of an old sign supported by a steel post shaped as shown in the attached rough sketch. The apex is slightly sloped to one side, suggesting either design or wear from wheels. The base is about 150mm across. Is this a piece of very old rail (possibly narrow gauge) or just some sort of heavy angle iron used for such purposes. It does seem pretty hefty for simply supporting a sign. I haven't had time to find out much about the line yet but I do know that it was a single line branch of the Shrewsbury and Welshpool Joint Railway and the principal traffic was lead from the mines at Snailbeach which was brought down to Pontesbury station on a 2ft 4 1/2in narrow gauge line. Any ideas? Regards Geoff ...
