... topic: 2076 Maps of Barnsley posted: 9 Oct 2012 13:55 from: Martin Wynne Anyone modelling Barnsley? I have just received this email press release. 1:500 are large scale maps ideal for track planning, similar in size the railway 40ft rating plans (1 :480). However, I haven't seen these maps so I have no idea how much railway detail is included. p.s. The Nitro PDF Reader (free) can extract the original JPG scans from PDF files, for use as picture shapes. The DPI and scale are known, so it would be easy: http://www.nitroreader.com Barnsley Family History Society have released on CD, The Ordnance Survey complete series (sixteen sheets) of Barnsley Town Maps (scale 1: 500, surveyed 1888 and published 1889.) Each sheet (966mm x 644mm) covers an area of 38.4 acres, was scanned at 300dpi and saved to CD as a separate PDF file (numbered 01-16.) To aid searches, a zoom enabled combined map of all ...

... topic: 1588 Hull& Barnsley Railway Track posted: 18 Aug 2011 19:26 from: David Yates Hi Everyone, I am contemplating building a Scale7 layout based on the Hull& Barnsley railway c.1910. I have a rough hand drawn plan of the proposed layout, but before refinining it using Templot, I need to establish details of the standard track length in use at the time, together with sleeper spacings and details of pointwork. Despite spending some time searching for information, all I have established up until now, is that 88lb/yard rail was in use, probably in 30ft lengths. If anyone out there, has information relevant to my queries or can suggest where I might find such information, I would be most grateful. Many Thanks, Dave Yates Parts of Templot Club may not function unless you enable JavaScript (also called Active Scripting) in your browser. ... topic: 1730 Proposed Layout: Staircliffe Junction posted: 15 Dec 2011 20:55 from: David Yates After many months trying to design a workable layout to fit in my garage I have finally arrived at a plan which suits the space available. It is an imaginary junction on an extension off the Wath branch of the Hull& Barnsley Railway. Such an extension was under consideration in 1901 but ultimately came to nothing. The layout is 17 foot long with two traversers serving the main line and branch to the left of the plan and another traverser serving the mainline on the right. I would welcome any comments on the feasibility of the design. If there is anything obviously wrong with the plan, constructive criticism would be welcomed. There is still work to be done on shoving timbers but until such time as I'm satisfied with the overall design, that can wait for a later date. ... topic: 1896 Staircliffe Exchange Sidings- Hull& Barnsley Railway c.1910 posted: 2 Apr 2012 20:29 from: David Yates A few months back I posted a boxfile showing my proposed layout Staircliffe Junction. Since then the Junction has gone, to make room for a locomotive servicing facility and give better access to the down line sidings. Although the junction has disappeared, it will still be an important influence behind how the railway is operated. Anyway, enough of my waffling. Attached you'll find the latest incarnation of the track plan, and you'll see that I've added a diamond crossover to make entry and egress from the sidings easier, effectively increasing the operating capacity of the layout. The problem I have, is that I'm not totally happy that the arrangement of the diamond crossover is geometrically correct or even lined up as accurately as it should be,and I still haven't got my head around the complexities of constructing a diamond crossover, so this is an appeal for help to iron out the bugs and missing elements of the arrangement. So if ...

... topic: 1901 Staircliffe Exchange Sidings- Hull& Barnsley Railway c.1910 posted: 5 Apr 2012 21:56 from: David Yates Since I posted my layout plan for Staircliffe Exchange Sidings earlier this week, I've found it necessary make adjustments to the sidings headshunt, which means that the scissors crossing as originally conceived needs to be adjusted. I've spent the best part of a day trying to make the necessary adjustments, but with no success, so once again I'm appealing for help from the more enlightened among you to come to the rescue. The attached plan shows what I'm trying to achieve, the crossover at present being represented by two straight rails each connecting a pair of the diagonally opposite points. Can anyone out there, who fully understands what's involved, please come to my rescue and do what's needed to give me what I'm aiming for, or as close to what I'm aiming for as possible? Many thanks, in anticipation of someone saving my sanity! Regards, Dave Yates Attachment: attach_1417_1901_Staircliffe_Excha nge_Sidings_v14_05-04-12_Dev) .box 414 posted ...
