... with this so I created the topic so we can talk about it, hopefully this will be of great utility to other members. The layout in question is a P4/Demu challenge layout. For those not familiar I have a thread on a different forum discussing the construction of the layout, I'll keep this thread mainly for the specific topic of the track work. The challenge is described in some detail in the first post of the topic, together with a wonderful link to a youtube film that has a signalman from the Barnstaple- Exeter line discussing the state of the Railways in the early 1980's. The layout construction discussion can be located here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t =6010 For actual construction I'm planning to use PCB strips and bullhead rail. It's my first P4 layout and I've been asked elsewhere why I'm not using the P4 track co kits. The answer is straightforward- it's not an LNER layout so having that level of fidelity is pointless (if you'll excuse the pun). I've also noticed that ...

... topic: 648 Barnstaple Junction and Ilfracombe posted: 29 Nov 2008 21:33 from: dessire_luvals Here's my current version of the two locations. Early days yet; 2 years and 22 versions. The idea is that Torrington branch loops around to connect with the GW branch with the Ilfracombe Station above. The Southern line in the top right hand corner breaks out of the shed for a loop around the garden and back in. ... have some more time on my hands, I would like to master the product. I am currently using version 0.78e. Can I download updates to bring it up to the current version or do I need to purchase a new version? I have tried using it but I simply cannot get myself into the right mindset. Can you point me at any simply tutorials which develop my knowledge to I can get it to do what I want to? I have a project in mind that looks a little like the west end of Barnstaple Junction at one end and some complex pointwork at the other. What can you suggest? This is a tool I really want to get on top of as it does all I want to do. ... topic: 1962 Torr Giffard scenic section trackplan posted: 20 May 2012 14:46 from: Dave M Aft'noon all, I'm working on the trackplan for the scenic section of Torr Giffard 1959-1971 in 18.83 (P4). The layout is a development of Coleford jnc on the Exeter to Barnstaple route where the Plymouth line diverged. See 2297_200928_040000000.png The up platform will occupy the space between the up main and the goods run round loop/goods line. I'm aware that catch points will need to be added between the double slip and single track Barnstaple line (top left). The curvature throughout on the main lines can be taken as 20 chains. I've checked the track centre dimensions on several close up period pictures of curved sections and the 47.5mm gap which you see between the platforms and through the double junction above appears to be similar. The main lines diverge at the Exeter (right hand) end of the formation to pass through a typical 3 arch stone bridge before entering a twin bore tunnel. Similarly the Plymouth lines diverge to enter ...

... , John's scissors solution looks quite natural- assuming that is that all these connections are actually justified by the traffic! Best wishes, Howard. posted: 13 May 2014 19:05 from: Dave M Hi Howard, The area including the scissors crossover will be as part of a goods run round loop behind the up (uppermost) platform on Tor Giffard. Principle purpose of this runround loop is to allow freight arriving from the bottom left direction to depart in the top left direction (from the Plymouth direction and towards the Barnstaple/Fremington direction) and vice versa. Also, in the up direction the line nearer the platform can double as a goods loop. However, the operational requirements can still be achieved with a simpler (and consequently cheaper layout) than the full scissors crossing....the bottom left to top right direction through the crossing is luxury rather than necessity and therefore is unlikely to have been provided. 2297_131350_440000000.jpg undefined One difficulty is that I already have the baseframe part constructed for this area ..with cork trackbases bonded into place. Thus ...

... first attempts at two turnouts for 7mm scale 2' narrow gauge (O -14). The first turnout is based on a drawing of a Robert Hudson 6' 1 in 6 turnout as published by Roy Link in NG&I magazine and also on the O-14 yahoo group. I don't know how to get the tiebar in the correct position on this turnout. The second turnout has been produced from a de-perspectified drawing (using GIMP) of the turnout on the loop at Chelfham on the Lynton& Barnstaple. This appears to be a 1 in 8 turnout with 10' switch blades, however I understand many of the main turnouts were 1 in 10 and this adjusts to this OK. I would very much welcome comments/criticism. ... topic: 1823 Torr Giffard LSWR 1959-71 posted: 9 Feb 2012 14:57 from: Dave M Aft'noon' all, Torr Giffard, my new P4 layout, trackplan at http://backofafagpacket.blogspot.com/ is a blend of my favourite aspects of the LSWR....curving girder bridges, wooded river valley a.k.a. Weare Giffard, wide gentle river a.k.a. the River Torridge and a traffic pattern based on Coleford jnc where the Exeter to Plymouth route diverges from the Exeter to Barnstaple line. The layout has a 16ft x 12ft central scenic area with a 'Y' shaped trackplan and a 12ft x 2ft fiddle yard board on each of the 3 ends of the 'Y'. A low baseframe height of two and a half feet is envisaged surrounded by two feet high 'barn door' style opening sides to allow the sloping sides of the valley to be fashioned. I aim to run a transitional sequence of trains 1959- 71 showing the changing years during the operating sequence. The intention is for this to become an exhibition layout. The trackwork ...
