... topic: 626 Tandem turnout at Beverley posted: 16 Nov 2008 16:36 from: Martin Wynne Two more pictures kindly supplied by Mick Nicholson. These show a tandem turnout at Beverley. This is what might be called a "type 2" tandem, where the second switch is in the turnout road of the first switch. It is more usual for the second switch to be in the main road of the first switch (as in the tandem video). Notice also the reverse curving through this tandem. Definitely one for the collection, and an interesting challenge in Templot. I think I will keep this picture for the reply the next time someone asks for a tandem as a single click! Many thanks again Mick. beverley_tandem1.jpg beverley_tandem2.jpg Martin. posted: 16 Nov 2008 23:42 from: John Lewis They look like angles rather than curves! ... topic: 627 Inside switch detectors at Beverley posted: 16 Nov 2008 18:57 from: Martin Wynne I don't recall ever seeing something like this on a model. Switch detection gear installed in the four-foot at Beverley. Another fine picture from Mick Nicholson. inside_detectors_1983.jpg Martin. posted: 17 Nov 2008 14:04 from: Phil O Hi This is usually covered by a ramp to protect it from couplings etc. Cheers Phil posted: 18 Nov 2008 03:05 from: Phil O Hi Further to this mornings reply I have just watched the Fastline DVD of the old British Transport film for switch and crossing maintence etc. which was filmed on the Eastern Region and there is no sign of said ramps over facing point locks so this may be a GW/ Western region form of protection possibly because of the ATC plunger on the front of the loco's. Cheers Phil PS. I have photo's of the ramps somewhere& when I get a bit of time I will look them out and post them. Last edited on 18 Nov 2008 ...

... topic: 2583 Barry slips at Barry posted: 28 Nov 2014 12:02 from: Martin Wynne I have previously mentioned that a Barry slip is so-called because of their use in the sorting sidings at Barry Docks in South Wales. Here is the evidence -- a ladder of Barry slips at Barry (edit: see below): 2_280655_080000000.jpg Many thanks to Sandy Croall for the pic. Here again is this Barry slip at Beverley: 2_130910_590000000.jpg Thanks to Mick Nicholson for this. regards, Martin. posted: 30 Nov 2014 22:12 from: John Lewis In the Barry picture- I wonder what the JL stands for- and surely the PT is not Port Talbot (Railway) as the wagons are at Barry. John Lewis posted: 1 Dec 2014 10:08 from: RogerW So to build one of these I assume you start with plans for a double-slip and leave bits out.
