... like it too- these days it is called up-cycling Rob Last edited on 15 Dec 2020 21:14 by Rob Manchester posted: 15 Dec 2020 22:49 from: Tony W Hi Andrew. I sometimes wonder just how many of those Triang clerestories were butchered in an attempt to produce something reasonable, it must be hundreds if not thousands. My friend Mike Sargent who was hoping to build a model of Pen Mill in P4 produced a couple of decent looking coaches that way and they still do valiant service on Bodmin. Regards Tony. posted: 15 Dec 2020 22:58 from: John Lewis Hi Andrew, Thank you for sharing these photos. The 2-6 -2T is coming on nicely, the most obvious thing I think, is that the motion dos not really look like steel. Perhaps giving it an oily looking wash might help? The clerestory coach on the left looks splendid, the Horby one on the right of the pair looks wrong. It needs the droplights painted mahogany and the bolection mouldings were teak. ...

I have chosen Bodmin General as the track plan either at the junction or into the engine shed both show promise as a test track/plank layout which could be enlarged at a future date. As the locos are in 00 gauge I have chosen 4fs Initially I was thinking of copying out today's track layout, but I failed to find an appropriate plan to copy. I did find one which I think is of the 30's. I don't think I have got the map up to 4 mm scale but just appx to size, and a bit of compression may be required. I have just used B6 turnouts, where other sizes may be more appropriate. The junction+ goods yard turnout may be a good idea, though would it be ...

I have always liked rural branch lines and the history and operation of the Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway combining SR and (G )WR services is appealing. When I discovered 4-SF/OO-SF I was immediately taken by the concept. Although Oby will be P4 Bosmellin will not. P4 requires more time and has a higher cost (wheels, chassis, etc etc) than 4mm other scales and I can afford to allocate neither at this time to a layout of this size. Bosmellin is intended to be a portable layout. However, the space I have available 3.47m x 2.54m is only just large enough for the outside dimensions of the track ...

Although they could be on the outside of the running rail they would be fixed close to the outside edge of the rail and normally sit just below rail level being prevented from rising by any wheel sat on that part of the running rail. Any turnout protected by it would not be able to be unlocked.
