Scanned the platforms of the London terminii, notably Waterloo, Paddington and Victoria, to see if I was standing there. Particularly liked the Paddington shot of the Castle departing, still with the GWR style number on the buffer beam, not BR style on the smokebox. You don't see that sort of thing modelled! cheers Nigel Parts of Templot Club may not function unless you enable JavaScript (also called Active Scripting) in your browser. Hi Richard, Personnel come and have a chat? You're getting off lightly! Just wait until they become "H.R.". I was escorted over to HR by Security a while back (at HR's orders) to be "interviewed". Nothing to do with computers either. They were just playing pointless "King of the Castle" silly games. They do that a lot.... ... topic: 696 Rugeley Trent Valley posted: 16 Jan 2009 12:42 from: Mark Pelham This is a long term project for the future so not much progress will be seen for some time. Having started an N gauge layout based on Lichfield/Tamworth which as numerous "features" (ok, flaws) and subsequently seeing Castle Hill at Wakefield, it was inspiring to see a nice scenic 30' long 2mm layout. The fact that it all packs into one reasonable size vehicle was even more reason to get me thinking (it doesn't take much!). My main interests lie in the WCML scene around the turn of the century so the prospect of running scale length trains on a long gentle curve along a ~30' layout seemed quite appealing. I initially thought of basing the plan on Rugeley Trent Valley with a condensed run to Colwich Junction but having used scale turnout plans rather than Peco geometry I found it took a much larger distance to contain all the trackwork- it'll be worth it for a more realistic appearance though. ...

... I was fortunate enough to obtain 1:50 detailed drawings. Traffic covered a wide range- a branch line to Severn Beach and freight, including banana and oil block trains to and from Avonmouth. 'Monkey Specials'- trains of school children visiting Bristol Zoo came from all over the UK. Due to an incident in one of the tunnels when an engine failed and the children panicked, it was decreed they they should be double headed. I have a photograph of a formation of ex LNER teak coaches being hauled by a Castle and a 28XX. Circus and Military trains, composed mainly of Horse boxes, unloaded here en route for the Downs. As you can see, the coal yard is extensive. You can see the potential.... I have never built a layout depicting the post nationalisation era, nor one with diesels, so this will be a first. This plan is drawn in O-XF, but I also have one drawn in P4. All I need is for God to grant me time enough to construct it ...

Actually by about the '50s the lines curving off the to left were not used so much, apart from the "Kings" being attached to Southbound expresses that came in behinh usually a "Castle" or a "Hall" from Chester. Feel free to criticise, I'm still feeling my way and getting to learn the best way to "build" a plan up. ... the physical object -- a switch designed to derail vehicles. Single or double points. "Trap points" is a signalling term describing one of the purposes they serve -- to protect running lines from rolling stock in adjacent loops and sidings. Trap points can be a simple set of catch points, or a complete turnout leading to a short spur or sand drag. In some designs, the turnout rail is ramped up to carry the wheels over the opposite rail instead of a conventional V-crossing -- see the Castle Cary pic in this topic: topic 179 regards, Martin. posted: 27 Jan 2012 21:23 from: Tony W Hi Arthur. As the reply from Martin and the link explains, it is largely a matter of definition and who is defining it. It is often a source of confusion. As explained, in appearance they can be the same if only a single switch blade is used as trap point ranging up to a complete turnout leading into a sand drag or a short "blind siding". What ...
