... final printed templates, they are not needed while track planning. It's fiendishly complex. For example the REA bridge chairs (L1) have a larger corner radius (1.3/4 ") than ordinary S1 chairs (which have 1" corner radius): 2_161458_330000001.png And GWR slide chairs have a full semi-circular end on the inside, for example. Templot does all the positioning and rotating of the chairs, and calculates where bridge chairs are needed to fit the space. For 3D printing it needs to be in the DXF file. So this is where I've got to: 2_161458_330000000.png Just the chair bases so far. The next job is to change the rails to a proper bullhead section. Then add the keys, and the chair jaws. And the chair screws. There is a lot still to do. I may be gone for some time. Just to be clear, the above wasn't drawn in a CAD program, it is the DXF export from Templot. The CAD program is used simply to view it, and then save it ...

The last time this topic seems to have been discussed here seems to be 2009 and I wondered if there have been any developments since. Peter posted: 11 Aug 2013 11:36 from: Martin Wynne Hi Peter, My suggested method is here: topic 767- message 4515 The main development since then is that most folks have realised that the whole thing is a daft idea. It is far more difficult and time-consuming, with significant risk of damage, to remove the webs after construction of pointwork than the traditional method of snipping timber strip to length and fixing it on a paper template. Coupled with the great waste of material and extra cost if purchased ready-made, the perceived advantage of this method is something of ...

Part of the layout is a large terminus 5.6m long and just under 1m wide. I have grouped all the elements of the terminus together and used the export dxf file process to send a file to a print company who are endeavouring to print the terminus plan on continuous roll paper. The problem I have is that they are only seeing an A3 plan and not the full size. I have read the dfx help notes and sent both a "scale unchecked" version and another where I have checked the "scale" box and seen that the scale is set at 100%, both with the same result, they are only seeing an A3 file. But you may be unwilling to discard your friend's design work. 3. XTrkCad can export DXF files, which can be imported directly into Templot's background shapes as a design guide.
