Hi Paul, Yes, and I remember making a note in the book to do that. Thanks for the nudge. Not only for printing, but also in the PDF, on the sketchboard, etc. However, it would be difficult to implement for DXF, so in the event that a Quick-mode user wants to export DXF the program will have to store the control template as a background template first. Also, at present diagram-mode output is available for background templates only, so a similar solution is needed there too. We'll get there in the end. regards, Martin. posted: 31 May 2011 10:41 from: Martin Wynne Martin Wynne wrote: I have changed "classic Templot" to Normal mode, it shows N in the panel top ...

The intention of my use of the word "copy" there was to emphasize that storing the control template does not dispose of it, you still have it on the workpad to change, move, adjust, store again and again, as you wish. I'm also keen to get to T3, but not necessarily "as quickly as possible" because I can see quite a few obstacles in the way. For example I can't imagine a version of Templot which doesn't support EMF metafiles. Just as an example of that see the recent new printed-page preview function in T2. They are great too for export to CAD for control panels and suchlike (use DXF for actual track), and the entire working of the sketchboard is based on them. When I discovered that Lazarus doesn't support metafiles (presumably because they are too Windows-ish) my heart sank. I have an idea for a helper exe created in Delphi to provide T3 with metafile support (on Windows only). But so far it's only an idea, and will involve some complex programming, and the end result is bound to involve some compromises. In any event, I have to release at least one ...

I'm also going to see if I can just read the dimensions of the curved turnouts I'm using from templot and enter those directly into 3rd planit as custom turnout definitions instead of messing with the dxf file. Of course when I go to actually build the turnouts I'll print out the templot template and build on that. Thanks for the help, I'll ask my next question in a different thread. Create your baseboard outlines using dummy plain track templates. Export them as a DXF file, and then re-import the DXF file into the background shapes. Set them up as geometry> track centre-lines only templates. ... the PDF file here or share it with anyone via your web site or anywhere else. Otherwise anyone printing it on a different printer will get an inaccurate result and will naturally believe that Templot produces inaccurate output. That is the reason the native PDF output in Templot does not have a calibration function -- the file cannot be linked to a specific printer, and if the file is shared with others many different printers will be used. The primary reason for including the native PDF output in Templot is as an alternative to the DXF output for printing on wide-format continuous roll paper. For that the traditional printer paper sizes do not apply, and it is better to set the document dimensions directly. As with DXF printing, any final correction needed can then be done in the PDF reader/printing software. *If you use the Nitro PDF Reader (free from http://nitroreader.com ), it includes an excellent free virtual printer PDF generator. regards, Martin. posted: 18 Jul 2012 14:25 from: Mark C OK ...
