If included on the template prints they require a modern system with plenty of memory and good graphics. Sketchboard data is likewise saved and reloaded from separate files, in this case .sk9 files. 4. If you have a CAD program you can create your baseboard framing, room outlines, etc., in that program. It's not for the faint-hearted. If you are printing the plan for evaluation rather than as construction templates, you may find it easier to print the output at a reduced scale. This will also stress the system much less in printing the picture shapes. Click the output> enlarge/reduce size for print, PDF, DXF> menu options. For evaluation you may instead like to try using the sketchboard with the trackplan in detail mode. You can zoom in and see all the output, without using any ink. ... . The printer calibration function in Templot is available only for printed output. It is not available when creating the native PDF file output because there is no way of knowing which printer it might get printed on. There are two ways round this: 1. Use a free virtual printer PDF generator instead, such as Win2PDF. This appears to Templot as a normal printer, and can therefore be calibrated like any other printer. or 2. Change the output scaling at output> enlarge/ reduce size for print, PDF, DXF> set any%... menu item before creating the PDF file (unlike the printer calibration, this will affect the X and Y directions equally, it is not possible to set separate factors for each). The scaling needed to convert 208mm to 210mm would be 100.96%. Having said all this I strongly ask that you don't create PDF files with built-in corrections for a specific printer. It is very likely that the file will at some stage get printed by someone else on a different printer, ...

... inner road is 2/5ths the length of the middle road. It is usually better to have equal length roads, unless you intend to run specific trains from specific roads. On a straight fiddle yard you can easily do this by having all the turnouts on road 1 at the entrance end and be having all the turnouts on the last road at the exit end. Another way of doing it is to have the turnouts so that the entrance to each yard is through the same number of turnouts: dxf_re_import.png (Richard's attached DXF file re-imported into Templot. Anyway I've posted a folder in files section on the yahoo group with a couple of pictures and the box file if anyone wishes to view. Please do, I'm no genius with the program yet but think I've done a satisfactory job with my design. The curves are probably the thing I find the most difficult to judge considering I was working to an Xtrkcad DXF template, which due to the nature of the diamond crossings I've had to modify the track plan away from the xtrkcad backdrop (which incidently is the xtrkcad image in the files folder). Any tips or alterations I'd love to hear your views. nb the open point at the top of the plan is like that intentionally as it will lead to a lower level fiddle yard. ... ! Hi Howard, Well, you are certainly not shy of using transitions! That's going to be an impressive piece of pointwork. First of all, the transition markers which are out in fresh air can be removed and/or tidied up using the geometry> transition curve> normalize transition function (first delete to the current/control template). Read the help notes first, because it is not undo-able and may affect subsequent adjustments. To remove the transition markers entirely from the pad, the printed output, DXF exports, and everywhere else, untick the generator> generator settings> radial end marks menu option, and then click the generator> rebuild all background menu item. Then if you wish to restore the transition markers to the current/control template (and subsequently stored background templates), so that you can continue working with transition curves, tick the radial end marks option again. Alternatively, you can remove the transition markers from only the background templates on the pad, without affecting them elsewhere, by going to pad> ...

If I Shove Timbers, and use the dimensions (in inches) shown in the dialog box, when I come to measure the spacing on the workpad, I find the measurements do not agree with the dialog box.( This was actually found when I loaded the particular turnout DXF file into a cad program and found the error, then went back to Templot to verify). I have put 3 images below which, together, show the anomaly, and also attached the appropriate box file. Circled in Magenta on each image is the dimensions at each stage which should highlight the dimensional error The problem seems to be only around the Vee rail joint, as all other timber spacings are correct. Now the prototype dimensions I wanted scaled, are as follows: Timber spacing from A timber X3-A to X4-B= 30ins ...

... setting should be fine for a layout size up to a few hundred feet long, but it's worth trying these changes anyway.) Try changing the spooler settings to use direct to printer instead of via the printer spooler. Try splitting the .bmp file into two or more sections, and creating side-by-side picture shapes to contain them. If none of the above work, a different approach would be to vectorise your .bmp file using the free version of WinTopo( http://www.wintopo.com) and import the resulting DXF file into the background shapes instead of using a picture shape. If you would like to send the .bmp file to me at martin@templot.com I will see how it prints on my inkjet and virtual printers (sorry I don't have a laser printer to try). Generally for accurate construction templates it is better to use an inkjet.
