... on a scan" (a longer video showing a classic H0 layout). Edit 2012 for Templot2: Templot now supports PNG and JPG files in addition to BMP files for picture shapes, and it is no longer necessary to save them first in the shapes folder. You can save them anywhere on your computer. The above videos and notes have not yet been updated to reflect these changes. 2. Same as above, but using the PDF image from XTrkCad as the design guide. Display it using the Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader or Nitro Reader, and then do a screen capture as a Windows bitmap. On a PC that simply means pressing the Print Screen key to put it on the clipboard, but I don't know if you have such a key on the Mac. This approach means that any design constraints introduced by using commercial track in XTrkCad are going to influence your design, whereas working over the original CJF design gives you the full flexibility of Templot adjustments and curving. But you may be unwilling to discard your friend's design work. ...

... is a bug in pdf995. It is perfectly capable of creating colour PDFs, but when asked it says no. Templot takes it at its word. Most other software doesn't bother asking first. Why not try one of the other PDF generators? They all print colour fine. Win2PDF is generally regarded as the best for our purposes. The free version doesn't expire, but prints an extra nag page on each run: http://www.win2pdf.com Remember to set page scaling to "none" when printing in Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader. Or it can be set to the full size of your track plan for printing as a single large page at a digital copyshop, on a wide-format roll printer. This direct PDF export is intended for track construction templates as an alternative to printing them directly from Templot. There is also a PDF output function on the sketchboard. ... Hi Donald, Templot doesn't have any functions to print the grid in reverse. Some printers include mirror or flip functions to reverse an entire page, for use in connection with OHP transparencies. If your printer doesn't do that, you might try the Snagit program: http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp This includes a virtual printer similar to the well-known PDF generators. It includes Mirror and Flip functions, after which the image can be saved in a wide range of formats including PDF for printing via Adobe or Foxit Reader: 2_081139_380000000.png regards, Martin. posted: 8 Mar 2010 17:11 from: Donald MacLean Thank you, gentlemen, for your rapid responses. So I am getting there. Donald posted: 9 Mar 2010 11:17 from: David Cooper Donald Have you considered using transparent OHP paper and glueing or double ...

It would be a good idea to change your FTP password now if you haven't changed it recently. ... it appears that A3 is the largest paper size you can print to. Is this a function of the particular pdf writer I have or the program itself? Hi Paul, There is no size restriction in Templot itself. The maximum size is determined by the printer driver. In Windows XP you can create larger paper sizes, which a compatible printer driver should then adopt. See: topic 224- message 1096 There may be a restriction depending on which PDF software the print shop uses to print your track plan. Using the Foxit PDF reader there appears to be no restriction -- you can have a roll-paper print 50ft long if you want one. Using Adobe Reader, printing seems to be limited to around 13ft/ 4 metres maximum length per page. In the next Pug but one, Templot will include direct printing to PDF up to any size you like without the hassle of setting paper sizes on a printer driver. If you are having trouble, send me your .box file and I will create a large format PDF file for you ...

Phil, if you attach your .box file here, other Vista users can have a go at printing it and report any problems. A possible workaround is to install a virtual printer PDF generator such as pdf995 (free) or Win2PDF and print your template pages to that as PDF files. ... Printer margins' box and it made no difference. I think something is overriding that setting as after printing I noticed it was ticked again. If I unticked that box, then I would expect the number of pages under the track diagram to change from 1 to however many pages it would take to print the whole plan. To my mind it should say page 1 of 16 or something similar. Either way, it still prints one page with the whole plan reduced to A4 size even with that box unticked. I'm using Foxit reader to print the pdf and it may well be their software is playing up. The reason I say that is it would only let me choose my Samsung printer and every time I chose the Canon it defaulted back to the Samsung once I pressed print. The only way to overcome that was to make the Canon the default printer and then it worked OK. From what you are saying, I need not have used Sketchboard at all?
