The delay is caused by the need for a new user interface covering all the options. Here for example is one such track plan from Templot as a PDF file: http://www.templot.com/odds/4m_x_1m.pdf That's a single page 4m long by 1m wide (approx 13ft by 3ft). The file is about 1MB. Note that the excellent Foxit PDF Reader (free) opens such large files ok, but the Adobe Reader browser plugin probably won't. So right click and Save As... before opening it with Foxit. n.b. If you want to print it from Adobe or Foxit readers, be sure to set the page scaling to none, otherwise the template will not be accurate. This is not the usual default setting. It may not be the printer driver itself, it may be conflicting with antivirus programs or other programs which scan your system. That's why it happens intermittently. The reason Templot says that the printer is in use is because the previous print job failed to finish. After restarting, cancel any documents in the printer queue. I don't know if Foxit Reader accesses ntdll.dll but I can't see any reason that it would need to. I have used it extensively without any problems. What was the problem? A bit of Googling reveals the prime suspects: Norton antivirus. A terrible program which is notoriously invasive and difficult to uninstall. Internet Explorer. If you are using this instead of a proper browser, try removing or disabling any add-ons, and reset the IE defaults. Don't leave it running while printing. However, assuming the map is contained in the PDF file as an image (likely), there is one free PDF reader program which includes extraction tools. It's also an excellent reader program in its own right as an alternative to Adobe or Foxit readers. A PDF generator is a computer program which pretends to be a printer. But instead of printing the page on paper it creates it as a PDF file and saves it on your computer. You can then print it for real at a later date by using a program called a PDF reader. The two common ones are Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader. You can set a PDF generator to be your default printer if you wish, instead of your real printer. This is handy if you have run out of ink and want to print everything later.
