... being back, with the walk way beside the carriage siding under construction made simply from Evergreen strip chopped up in my Northwest Shortlines chopper( a great tool for this sort of repetitive work). Next I need to work out how to do the road surfaces between the sidings in the goods yard which, in this scale, needs the barest minimum of texture to suggest what would have been a pretty smooth surface. Gloss paint and talcum powder have been suggested to me, so that's one option that sounds feasible. Better reread Gordon Gravetts book on the subject! 2787_081738_340000000.jpg Kind regards Andrew posted: 8 Aug 2018 23:09 from: Martin Wynne Andrew Duncan wrote: Gloss paint and talcum powder have been suggested to me, so that's one option that sounds feasible. I had the original drawings printed off by a CAD company and made the pointwork accordingly. This particular part of the plan is on three levels, so I cut the plan into sections and all was well. Unfortunately I had to make a mod to the board with the result that the track dimension between two points increased to 514mm from the dimension of 416mm as shown on the attached pic. This dimension is important as I've decided to put a double track crossover between the two pairs of tracks (outer pair and inner pair, across a plate girder bridge) and have to do that retrospectively as all the track has been laid. How can I pick up a particular template and move it to a set dimension? I've been playing around with F7 and got it as ...

... topic: 1087 Switched crossing v Double Slip posted: 26 Mar 2010 20:10 from: Gordon S Probably a daft question, but just completed a double junction complex with a 8.25 switched crossing. When doing the first tests with a Bachmann bogie wagon it simply sailed through the crossing, which was great, but even seemed to like going across the adjacent curve without problem as though it were a double slip. Has a very shallow crossing or something similar ever been used as a slip in protype practice? I said it was a daft question, but it seems a very easy way of creating a double slip.... ... topic: 3553 Parallel track spacing- prototype and model posted: 18 Nov 2019 14:13 from: Gordon S Hi Martin, is there a way I can override the 'inches' setting in parallel track measurements? I understand how to use the 's' in front of a number and that gives me model dimensions, but it doesn't hold that information in mm. I can set up s60 as a number and make the parallel track. If I then go off and work on other bits of my plan and come back to that piece of track later, it defaults back to 180 inches and I have to keep doing the conversion to check what spacing I had entered. It would be great if you could set a default to work in inches or mm and only had to set it once. Knowing Templot, it probably does, but I haven't found it yet.... I find my own layout (18' x 18') is larger than the maximum number of pages I can generate in Templot. I have no need to print the complete layout, but find when I'm working in sections, I run off the end as it were and have to reset the page origin to cover the top end of the layout. Not a problem other than the page identification letters are now different and the only way to line it up is using the track itself. Not a major issue, but wondered if there is a way round it I'm not aware of. No need to do anything as I can cope with the odd few times it happens, but wondered if there is a solution. I have some questions. The layout is large at 18' square and to print on A4 sheets will require 284 sheets, each of which will have to be aligned. Questions. 1. I was considering sending a file to a professional printer to have the plan printed full size on plain roll. This has raised other questions. a) How do you save a print file? I understand how you save a box file of templates. Is this what an external printer will require? Will an external printer need Templot software to read the file? If they don't have the software, how will they calibrate their printer? I was hoping plans could be printed on wide rolls (up to a metre?) to reduce errors. If this is not possible or prohibitively expensive, then I am left with A4 ...

Hi Gordon, That's the famous "matchsticks and broken glass" effect. It's a known effect. Your coloured tracks make it look even more dramatic! It is caused by the transition curve being too "gentle" for the maths capability of your processor. In other words the radius changes by too little in too long a transition length. If you look at the transition radii there you will see 2053- 2020mm radii -- a difference of less than 2%. When you get this effect you can be ...

At present this is simply shown as two overlaid lines of plain track. I have been experimenting all morning with "insert turnout in plain track" and then "make half diamond". I had no success with "make diamond crossing" as the angles are different on each side of the crossing and despite my best efforts with the F5 and F6 keys could not get it right. Then tried duplicating the "half crossing" method and found I could get both sides of the crossing correct at the frog end, but of course ended up with an angle between the two half crossings, rather than the smooth flowing curve. Can you tell me what the correct order would be to create such a curved crossing? I guess I'm going down the wrong route with my method. Of course it all else fails, I ...
