... topic: 3667 Exporting a track plan to create a mimic panel posted: 13 May 2020 09:59 from: Gordon S Hi Martin/Fellow Templotters I've decided to build a mimic panel for Eastwood Town as I'm struggling to mentally convert the schematic diagram within my ECoS controller to the totally curved shape of my own layout. I now have the required amount of LED's and controllers from DCC Concepts, so thought I'd make a start on creating the track plan. My first thought was to use Sketchboard, but once I started to enlarge the panel, the track edges became jagged. The final mimic panel is going to be something like 800mm long by 400mm deep. I can't say the exact size as it's going to be governed by the need to place LED's within the track lines. The bezels of the LED's are 7mm diameter. In total there will be at least 72 LED's on the panel showing the turnout detection of 36 turnouts. What is the best way of accomplishing this? Ideally I would like to add six platform faces and text ...

... topic: 228 Challenging terminus design posted: 9 Nov 2007 00:31 from: Gordon S Hi, I'm new to Templot and have been discussing with Martin a fairly large terminus plan which is an adaptation of a CJ Freezer terminus plan published nearly 20 years ago. I've reached the grand old age of 59 and will be retiring from my job at the end of this year so will have plenty of time on my hands. I have been a modeller for most of my life and now that my kids have all left home, I'm lucky enough to have a space available of 18' square. The room is the converted loft space above a double garage and has been fully fitted out with a proper staircase, heating and lighting to eventually house a multi layer 00 layout. The lower level is under construction now and will have 12 through storage roads, each about 30' long. The lower level will be about 18" below the scenic level which will allow full access to the storage roads for track cleaning and point repair etc. ...

... topic: 2805 File names appearing on screen and on prints posted: 12 Dec 2015 09:01 from: Gordon S When I am designing a layout, I will save variants each time as I develop the plan, so I can always go back to an earlier version if the latest changes don't work. Once I have finished work, I may not return to Templot for several days or weeks and then can always pick up where I finished in the start up programme. Returning to the last images on screen is not an issue, but when I get there I may not be able to recall which version I was working on. I've searched high and low, but can't find a place where the file name appears on screen or within the menu items. I'm guessing it is there somewhere but blowed if I can find it. This then continues into printed items where I may end up with several templates taped together of various versions and it would be really useful if the file name appeared somewhere on the printed sheets. Apologies again, ...

... is a complex subject. If you don't want that complexity, you don't have to have it; you can use Templot to print out individual templates as you might obtain from one of the societies or track manufacturers and just work from those, except that you have rather more choice with Templot. Frankly, if Templot came with paper documentation, it would need a shelf-full to do it justice, and wading through that lot would be a daunting prospect. cheers Nigel posted: 8 Mar 2010 09:50 from: Gordon S Morning guys, I have only just seen this thread, but would like to add a couple of comments as I have some empathy to both sides of the discussion. So up front: 1. I'm a great fan of Templot. It has allowed me to prepare a comphensive plan of a large (18' square) multi level layout with a running length of around 600'. By the time the build/design is finished there will probably be 70+ turnouts, all hand built using Templot templates. ...

The line will have a half height retaining wall between the lower level line and double track upper level. Space is quite restricted and the minimum clearance is 30mm. The box file is attached, but Martin has added a 'clearance line' 35mm from the track centre. This will be very useful for me, but I have no idea how he created it. I found the menu item 'swing angles' and set that to 30 degrees and that seems fine, but it hasn't added the lines from the centre to enable me to accurately cut the segments. At present I've simply drawn the lines across the template using the ends of the track bed edges as a guide. Is there a way of adding the radial lines to make accurate segments?
