Pardon me if this question has already been asked and answered, but is there a way to search the forums? I do not appear to see a search option. If the question has been answered, I link or directions to the answer would be great. ... posted: 29 Dec 2010 13:48 from: Raymond This design, which has been through many iterations, is probably now finalized. It is to go in my workshop as a scenic test track and somewhere to play trains between jobs. Based upon GW circa 1900 I think I have got it just about right now but if anyone can see a blooper I'd appreciate you telling me. It's like proof reading I suppose, proofing one's own stuff is not a good idea because one 'knows' what it should be. Seasons greetings to one and all. ... topic: 1024 Passing clearances (Vehicle overhangs) posted: 27 Jan 2010 20:52 from: Dellboy Greetings As a born again railway modeller, of the many things I have been trying to get up to speed on is current thinking on how much one should increase the six foot (track centres) by on double curved track. Hours of Web trawling has drawn a blank. By using simple trigonometry I have managed to determine how to calculate the middle overhang based on track radius and coach bogie centres but how to calculate the end overhang? Should I assume end overhang is at worse equal to middle overhang? Related to this is how much contact allowance should be allowed for, I have assumed 2mm? But is this too small allowing for play in bogie pins etc. I would prefer my six foots to be as close as practicable to the 44.67mm standard. The gauge being modelled is EM, the centre line radius of the outer track is 1,250mm. From my calculation- for a 275mm long coach with 192mm bogie centres middle ...

... topic: 2901 (L )NER crossover (splice rail lengths) posted: 16 Jul 2016 23:20 from: DerekStuart Greetings fellow track builders. I am building my first C9 crossover (P4) to (L )NER design after 'graduating' from B6 and B8 single units. I have taken the diagram from the NERA books and shoved the timbers in Templot and verified with a close up photograph. All well and good. However, the diagram shows a 17ft splice rail* and that means the rail joint will be not only behind the opposing turnout's check rail but actually directly on a chair. I have found a photo from a much earlier time at another location (NER) that shows the splice rail at the close end of the opposing check rail giving an approximate length of 8ft. I'm sure I read somewhere that short splice rails were done away with quite early and I have not found any reference to uses longer than 17ft. Does anyone have any opinions on this please? Either for prototypical reasons or pragmatic modelling. Any ...

I'm waiting to see you crank out some really impressive 7mm turnouts for your layout on a 3-D printer. I would switch to 7mm myself, but I'm too heavily invested in 00 to make the change. As I said earlier, there's no need to do anything as I now understand what was happening. I kept thinking I had used the wrong version of my file when I had printed out the templates and had taped them together. It wasn't until I came to align them with existing templates on my baseboard did I find that the numbers were different. It was my sanity that I was checking, not the integrity of Templot... ...

Sketchboard works this way when there is no trackplan item on the board. The printed dimensions are shown on the top and left yellow rulers. As an indication that this mode is in force, most of the dimension labels are shown in red: 2_151224_280000000.png (In this mode the sketchboard could be used to create simple leaflets, greetings cards, etc., should anyone choose to use Templot for such work.) When there is a trackplan item on the sketchboard, dimensioning is transferred to the blue rulers on the bottom and right, which are scaled to match the grid dimensions on the workpad and not the printed paper dimensions. It is not necessary for the trackplan item to occupy the full page, the 0,0 origin on the blue rulers will set itself to the bottom left corner of the trackplan, as for the grid origin on the ...

... topic: 2515 Wheelset sideways slop between rails posted: 20 Aug 2014 10:45 from: Brian McK Greetings all, I'm modelling New Zealand's 3' 6" gauge system circa 1920s to 1:48 scale. While I can produce my own wheels and trackwork scaled exactly true from the prototype, do recognise that a very slight increase of the 1-3 /4 inch wide turnout flangeways with a commensurate adjustment to wheelset B to B may be a more realistic goal for construction and operational reliability. However, my question is this. In trying to ascertain dimensions for assembled wheelsets, what amount of "sideways slop" is appropriate for wheelsets in my scale on 22.2mm gauge? I'm aware that a tightening of track gauge has improved matters for O scalers (O -MF etc) and that a similar practice is occuring in 4mm scale, thus removing some of the clearance allowed for "trainset" wheels to run around curvature of dinner plate radius. I could study P4 and S7 etc and perhaps formulate something from that. But maybe there ...

... full-size track construction templates, usually on multiple pages. 2. On the sketchboard you can add details of the scenery and buildings to your track plan to create a colourful full layout plan, usually on a single page. This could be to show to friends, or include in a magazine article or club newsletter, or to post on a web forum such as this, etc. Or you can add colours and labels to make a control panel diagram, say. You can even use the sketchboard to create a greetings card or club leaflet, without any track at all. Here I have added a few items to your track plan on the sketchboard. This took only a minute or two: 2_171345_250000000.png 2_171345_260000001.png 2_171345_260000002.png If you have a well-specified computer you can also have the sketchboard items showing on the trackpad, as an aid to the track design work. ... topic: 1998 A Beginners first attempt posted: 29 Jun 2012 20:10 from: wirey33 Greetings from a new user. First, I should explain the layout and what I'm trying to achieve. It's a late 80's, early 90's modern image layout based on the idea of a freight only line that ends with a set of exchange sidings. Freight arriving here will be shunted into smaller length services to be tripped to a business park/trading estate (off layout). Due to major expansion, it was decided to add a small station/halt to service the business park. There is also a siding on the layout which I've called Timber, but may well be domestic coal or oil etc. So the layout comprises the following Main arrival road with run round loop and engineers siding. Three siding roads with kick-back road for Timber/Coal/Oil. I've tried hard to eliminate the parallel tracks to avoid the "Train-set" look; quite tricky on a fairly narrow board. The line on the Right hand ...
