... . It looks very good, but I don't have any actual measurements. There is more discussion on Brian's own email group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/finescale Here's how I created the file showing an outline of the timbers and "rail" webs between them. Ideally Templot would be able to do this in a proper mathematical fashion. But at present it can't, and the internal data structure makes it a very complex task for every possible track formation with multiple partial overlaid templates and shoved timbers. So instead I did this: 1. In Templot I increased the rail-width for each template to create the links. But Brian is now saying this may be necessary only for bases which are to be curved by flexing. If the design is already curved and fixed it may not be needed. In fact it may be possible to use links which are narrower than rail for easier removal before ballasting. What width are your links? There is a lot of experimenting still to be done I think. 2. I set ...

You will also get them much more quickly without the usual several minutes delay via Yahoo. Try this: 1. Go to Yahoo and change your setting for the Templot group to "no email". Thank you posted: 9 Mar 2014 13:48 from: Martin Wynne PeterD wrote: I have tried to construct this three times and ended up finding the 'Lock Switch (in F5) was greyed out and therefore not selectable. Hi Peter, Probably because you are using a custom switch. Such a switch will always be locked in F5 because Templot has no way of knowing what other switch to use instead. However, it is much better to ignore all that out-of-date stuff and use a gaunt turnout or irregular diamond in Templot2 for the middle crossing. Hi Martin, As someone that is finally getting to grips with Templot, after many years of struggling, as it just "clicked", I feel that you have answered your own question. Why don't you just change the menu description to what you have actual described yourself? Instead of "Store& background", change it to "Copy to Plan". As you said, the activity of "Store" is really to create a copy, and the "Plan" is a more intuitive phrase (we are building a track plan, after all) than "Background". And it is not as though Templot users aren't adaptable to changes in the terminology used in the program, so they should easily get used to the new names in the same way that they do new/changed ...

You could also, by replacing the engine release road by a crossover, shove in a short siding, e.g. for an end loading dock; it could also serve as a head shunt for the goods yard. Also, in the north west area of the layout there's a sort of short bay road, which strikes me as a bit odd, partly as it might have to be on a gradient. I'd be tempted to run it off the adjacent double track road instead, as say a short bay for parcels traffic. A few other ideas. If things are tight you could remove the southmost hidden loop, which might help; it also gets rid of hidden turnouts (which I hate). You could change the look of things and maybe get a bit more flexibility with the curves if you singled the double track. By the way, none of these ideas stops the setting being urban if that's what you want. Hope some of this helps! cheers Nigel posted: 25 Jun ...
