Ray. posted: 9 Jan 2012 20:28 from: Martin Wynne Hi Ray, You have found a bug in TDV. Thanks for reporting it. Without the bug, you needed to make a ladder crossover instead of a simple crossover. The correct procedure would have been: 1. delete the unwanted lower template 2. delete the upper template back to the control template 3. click the tools> make ladder crossover> make regular ladder menu item, to create the diamond-crossing instead of the turnout. That works fine in version 091c even if the turnout is in a transition zone, as yours is. Unfortunately because of a bug it doesn't work in TDV in the case of a transition. I will get it fixed ...

Maybe a better way, once you've saved your slip as a separate box file, would be to start your new design, then instead of "add library", choose "reload...". You are then given various options- choose "add new templates to existing". Browse to your saved slip box file and reload it, whereupon the slip will appear on the background in its entirety, but in the wrong place! Occasionally you may notice small discrepancies in the rail alignments when viewed zoomed-in to high magnification on the screen. This will be of no consequence in practical track planning. There are two possible transition curves in any given case, one of each hand. In many cases it is not obvious which hand is required. If the first one tried is not correct, the dialog which appears allows a template of the opposite hand to be easily created instead. I have removed the custom gauge/scale settings from the saved program preferences. Instead, the custom gauge/scale settings from the previous session will be reloaded every time, regardless of your preferences settings. There are only 4 slots for the custom settings, so it is likely that when creating a new custom gauge/scale it will be necessary to delete or overwrite a previous custom setting. That's not a problem because the previous setting will be in any templates which used it, and it can be adopted back into the custom settings from the control template at any time if necessary. If Windows has to swap things to and fro to make room, each template page can take 10 minutes to print. The first thing to do is to reduce the scanned DPI level. 600 dpi is tops, 300dpi or 200dpi will be fine for most scans. Some scanners can use much higher DPI settings if left to themselves and so create very large files. If you can work with a monochrome grey-scale scan instead of colour, that will reduce the size of the internal bitmap by a factor of 9. Also make sure your printer is set for normal text-quality printing, not high-DPI photo printing. If it calls itself a photo printer it might do that by default. Then if it won't print, try splitting the image into several smaller images. That is one of the great advantages of the tiled maps from the NLS. The crop/combine function makes it easy to split an image into smaller sections. ...

Your default printer is the one which Windows uses if you don't specify any particular printer. Many users have more than one printer on their system. If you have only one printer, it is automatically the default printer. "Default" anything means the choice which is used in the absence of any instructions to the contrary. A PDF generator is a computer program which pretends to be a printer. But instead of printing the page on paper it creates it as a PDF file and saves it on your computer. If it works on all of them, that's as much as I know -- I haven't the faintest idea why it wouldn't work somewhere else. It does raise the question of why these 3rd party anti-virus programs prevent Templot loading when Microsoft's own perfectly adequate and free anti-virus software doesn't. The answer is that they are a complete rip-off. Instead of scanning the file for actual malicious code (which would be worth paying for), they simply announce it as a threat for no other reason than not recognising it -- simply because none of their other users have downloaded it.
