... to get better teched-up for this year's wanderings. Hi Nigel, You have spurred me into action. I have downloaded the camera's app onto my mobile phone, and paired it with the camera. So I now have "Geotagged" GPS location data in the EXIF data on my photos. That's great. I expected it to fail with some incomprehensible error message, but in fact it worked first time. I can also now control the camera from the phone, which will be useful when it's on a tripod, instead of my old-fashioned cable release. On the other hand, the cable release has been working for the best part of half a century without ever needing a new battery. I have also re-activated my Geograph account, which apparently I haven't used since 2008. I'm sure I uploaded some photos, but they are not showing anywhere. I have submitted my photo above from yesterday, but reading their guidelines I fear it may be rejected for having my name on the corner. I found it a very tedious ...

When I use Templot I do not want radial end marks, outline extension marks, timber centre lines, timber numbering, timber infill, 8'-6" marks on 9' sleepers. I can put the generator settings in the user preferences. But I'm not sure you are using the generator as intended. Comments and suggestions welcome, but don't leave it too long or I may have moved on to something else. I'm minded to stop using the term "irregular" diamond-crossing because it has the potential to be confused with an error condition. Instead I'm thinking of calling them "curviform" diamond-crossings. We therefore need to keep our own record of the current parent of the form. Shall I look at that or do you want to have a go? There is not much need for if Assigned because all the forms are created in the program unit( templotmec.lpr) before Application.Run; If that failed we would have far more problems than this form not being assigned. It can't be done in Windows Explorer, and even if it could I wouldn't want to because I want Templot to work as fully as possible under Wine on Linux/Mac computers. Instead I will make a file viewer function within Templot itself. It will take a while to do, but in the meantime you may like to add a dummy template with the name "read me" to your .box files, and add any notes about the file to its memo notes. ... change's sake. At present the template number simply represents its position in the storage box list, so the number changes as templates are inserted, deleted, etc., or the list is re-ordered on the storage box. This can be confusing when printing templates at different times because the template numbers (the prefix on the timber numbers) may have changed. There would be an advantage in giving each template additionally a fixed ID number which wouldn't change, and which would be printed as the prefix on the timber number instead of the list number. So I have now made such a change. When a template is added to the storage box it is given a fixed ID number. In principle this is the same as giving it an auto-generated name instead of "no-name" -- the ID number has no numerical significance and is simply a symbolic identifier. The ID number looks like this: TL123 where T=turnout, or P=plain track, or D=half-diamond and L=left-hand ...
