... Templot needs to zoom in over bitmaps much further than almost any other software, especially when printing. On some systems, if you zoom in so far that a single pixel fills the screen, you don't even get a blue screen -- just an instant hardware restart! Which is a bit alarming. I've tried to put in some limits, but it's difficult without restricting desired functionality. Note that the video says you must use BMP files for picture shapes. This is no longer the case in Templot2 -- PNG or JPG files are now supported, and they don't need to be in the SHAPE-FILES folder. This doesn't change the amount of program memory needed, but makes the files a bit more manageable. The video is on the list for a revision. regards, Martin. posted: 7 Oct 2012 21:07 from: bambuko Thanks! That's very good news. I will change to .png straight away and perhaps start with something simpler just for practice. Chris posted: 7 Oct 2012 21:23 from: Martin Wynne ...

... topic: 2076 Maps of Barnsley posted: 9 Oct 2012 13:55 from: Martin Wynne Anyone modelling Barnsley? I have just received this email press release. 1:500 are large scale maps ideal for track planning, similar in size the railway 40ft rating plans (1 :480). However, I haven't seen these maps so I have no idea how much railway detail is included. p.s. The Nitro PDF Reader (free) can extract the original JPG scans from PDF files, for use as picture shapes. The DPI and scale are known, so it would be easy: http://www.nitroreader.com Barnsley Family History Society have released on CD, The Ordnance Survey complete series (sixteen sheets) of Barnsley Town Maps (scale 1: 500, surveyed 1888 and published 1889.) Each sheet (966mm x 644mm) covers an area of 38.4 acres, was scanned at 300dpi and saved to CD as a separate PDF file (numbered 01-16.) To aid searches, a zoom enabled combined map of all ...

See: message 14055 If you watch the video which Trevor mentioned, please note that it is now out of date: 1. it is no longer essential to save the image in BMP format. In fact PNG is much better and preferred for line drawings and diagrams, and for scanned images use JPG format. 2. it is no longer necessary to save the image in the same folder as your BGS files. ... codec being used by the browser, iOS and safari use H.264, which gives really good quality and quiet small sizes, but isn't royalty free( but apple pays the royalty) Flash is dead Martin, even Adobe know that. Hi Dave, Everyone I ask keeps telling me all this, but it just isn't true. Presumably if Apple says it often enough everyone believes them. The HTML5 codecs use jpeg-style compression and it just isn't suitable for recording screen graphics. For still images we have two formats -- JPG for real-world camera photos and scans, and lossless PNG for line graphics. The difference between them is significant and clearly visible. It's blindingly obvious that we need two similar formats for moving images. At present the only lossless video formats I know about are Flash, AVI+ TechSmith TSCC codec, and FBR. According to Blueberry they are using H.264 for the QuickTime exports: 2_011509_090000000.png So I have just now: 1. Updated my version of QuickTime to the latest upgrade. 2. But thanks to you I have my starting point and I am nearly there I think. I have downloaded from old-maps.co.uk (as per Phil's suggestion) which has proven to be far more help than I expected (I was looking at a preview on a small screen) and I am going to scan the PDF as a bmp/jpg/png and load back into Templot and look again at the curvature on road 1. There are lots of programs which can convert a TIFF file to one of those formats. For example Microsoft Paint which is already on your system. Just type Paint in the Windows search box to find it. Open the TIFF file in Paint, and then immediately Save it again in one of the above formats. To retain the crisp detail, the PNG format is best. (Don't use BMP because the file size will be enormous from a hi-res TIFF scan and may crash you ...

The check rails are not very prominent in the picture because they are rusty. The wider rails at the side of the track are conductor rails for electric trains. A "regular" diamond-crossing means that all 4 crossings (2 V-crossings and 2 K-crossings) have the same angle. To make one of these in Templot, start with a straight turnout and click ...

Saved the templates and shapes but on reopening the map image is not anywhere to be seen. Have I lost it for good? I thought Templot saved it as a shape on quit? The map is extant as a jpg but was rescaled in Templot to fit the new gauge I'd changed it to, and custom rotated to fit an odd baseboard. Is there anyway of getting it back or is it a case of redoing the whole thing again? posted: 15 Dec 2020 21:50 from: Martin Wynne Hi Ian, Go to the recent shapes list and click the first item on the list which comes up: 2_151645_360000000.png It should be the last file you saved. On quitting Templot asks you if you want to save your background shapes. You would explicitly have to say no, not to save them. By default, background shapes are saved in BGS3 files in your C: ...
