... Feb.bgs' in the file; http://perso.orange.fr/brian.tuckey/Templot files.zip is therefore only a guide. Brian, Having a look at the layout plan brings back memories of pipe dreaming as a teenager :-) However, if you are working in P4 I would think that the plan will need a lot of re-working to get radii which are suitable. Before you go too far, can I suggest that you try and have a look at "Historic Railway Modelling" by (the late) David Jenkinson. In this book he describes the thought processes in designing his 7mm scale layout, with various plans. His desired layout was the same basic design as the CJF one, with a largish terminus feeding a continuous run and hidden sidings. I've got the feeling that his layout designs might well reduce to 4mm and give you something which will work in P4. I'm away from home at the moment, so can't get at my copy of the book, but when I get home at the weekend, I can do a ...

If you or anyone can recommend one, that would be really great, and would save me continuing to buy books at random! Hi Phil, You might like "Historical Railway Modelling, a Personal View" by the late David Jenkinson. Pendragon, 2001, ISBN 1899816100 I don't know if it is still in print new, but there are several copies listed on AbeBooks: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/book-search/isbn/1899816100/ The book is biased towards the Midland Railway rather than LYR, and especially the Settle-Carlisle line, but it includes lots of track plans and ideas for layout planning based on prototype locations. Plus good advice on researching a layout and practical experience of building and operating a prototypical model railway. The book ...

... look forward to welcoming you, Edmund. regards, Martin. posted: 27 Jul 2008 23:00 from: edmund_kinder Hello Everyone I'm flattered that my humble efforts have been given approval. Basically, I started this project in 2001/2 as I managed to put a complete floor above my double garage at home (making sure adequate ventilation and insulation were installed too). For those of you who have looked at my web site http://www.users.daelnet.co.uk/edmund/layout.htm you will have read that the late David Jenkinson gave my layout his blessing and allowed me to use his Dent Head Junction trackplan. It was he who suggested the name Grisedale, and it is real honour do do this. The track used through most of the construction was from C& L Finescale along with their excellent templates. The pointwork in the fiddleyard is constructed from SMP with copper clad sleepers. The technique used with the C& L pointwork was the method put forwards by Iain Rice using ply sleepers with rivets. After the trackwork had been wired and tested ...

... track in addition to 2 lengths of rail and sleepers. Luckily most of my future plans are for smaller layouts(....in case I don't stay around long enough to finish a big one) There is often an issue within hobbies such as ours in that many of the original protaganists have either moved on,left the hobby or are at the stage of life when development of new ideas is not a priority( you mentioned David White and Bob Wills, Brian Lewis is another, Bill Hudson, Bob Essery, David Jenkinson....the list gets longer). More modern entrants are likely to encompass more modern technologies such as laser cutting or 3D printing. Finding people willing to cast metal chairs at a low price is probably quite difficult.
