... spotted this on fotopic and thought it looked very modellable: Link: sand yard picture. (Large image -- scroll both ways). I posted the link also on RMweb, where there was some discussion about the identity of this location. On RMweb I wrote: The tracks in the foreground have been lifted, and the tracks in the yard are in excellent condition. This suggests a recent renewal to create a yard for sand transfer to road vehicles -- so possibly in connection with a large construction project nearby. Nuclear power station? Dam? The loco in the picture is displaying 8K05 headcode, and a note on E4um today (thanks to Richard Ward) says "K headcode was Ipswich and all stations/yards to Lowestoft and Felixstowe, etc." So that sent me looking for likely locations on the OS map, and I'm confident that I have identified this location as Leiston on the Aldeburgh branch, currently serving Sizewell Nuclear Power Station. A 1970s picture of Leiston yard is here. Note for comparison the building in the right ...

... the railway company has requested a person to leave they must do so or they are committing a criminal offence- which means that they can be arrested and a bit more (reasonable) force used to remove them... however, given the many and weird complications of a citizens arrest, there is no way that I would ever have arrested anyone... We were also told that there was only one other incidence of criminal trespass- but we weren't told where that would be... Not MoD land nor Nuclear land as far as I know- they have their own laws- which are more Draconian- you can get shot and killed... I tend to think that that's good reason not to try to claim a right to roam there... Meanwhile- back at (something like) the original topic... I'm still looking for pics of sole plates... I have noted that the 3 way at Butterely (which is a three way not a tandem) doesn't have a sole plate for the ...

... domestic appliance but in truth serving little recreational purpose and requiring a tame teenage geek to do anything remotely technical, such as connecting to the internet or printing a photograph. But it was an ideal gadget on which to plan a model railway, and I developed Templot for it. Go into PC World today and where are the desktop computers? All but gone. Instead there is a dazzling display of sleek must-have mobile devices, itouch raspberry padpod netphones with enough computing power in the palm of your hand to run a nuclear power station. It's almost impossible to come out without one. Perfect if you want to tweeter to your friends from the back of the bus, or get the closing prices on the London Metal Exchange while sitting on the train home. But run Templot? Several people have told me that Templot is now the only thing they use their desktop computer for. Which is fine until it finally dies. Then what? Should I be planning to spend most of my spare time for the next 10 years developing Templot, if ...

... my difficulty all within 1/2 hour of me putting my query up? Give that man a medal, once I have tried his ideas out which will take a little longer, if they work 2 medals. Yes I do know about not-curved baulks...working on it. Plain track won't need Templot or laser to provide the straight with corners. The planned lasering is for complex pointwork where I have a cunning plan.... PS HMS Dreadnought of c. 1840( Victorian equivalent to the nuclear deterrent) had two layers of teak with an iron plate in the sandwich. ISTR the planks were around 14" thick and wider. They were certainly curved, presumably after steaming and much sharper curves than Brunel's baulk road which used mere 14" wide on plain track and 20" for turnouts and softwood too. I suppose cost put IKB off. posted: 28 May 2016 11:16 from: Martin Wynne Hi Paul, Just a reminder that you can of course do baulk timbering now, if a bit tedious ...

Must clear/tidy up all the "stuff" that came from parents' homes from my (single) garage so that I can get on with the baseboards for "Singleton". all the best Richard posted: 21 Jun 2016 22:57 from: Rob Manchester Richard, Not much chance of the plan for the new nuclear plant going ahead according to the BBC but who knows. ... big problem is DUST and STATIC, even the tiniest speck becomes enormous when scanned at hi-res. I have an air-blast duster, do scanning only in damp weather, wear only a cotton shirt, etc., but still have problems. This gadget appears to do nothing to solve the dust problem, which seems to me to be by far the biggest issue making neg scanning such a pain. The so-called dust-removal software is useless. Have I posted this one here before? 2_172143_080000000.jpg Trawsfynydd Nuclear Flask Tranship Yard, August 1969. That was scanned at low-res with the old scanner before I got the Epson. ... it into two versions, I do feel you were bullied into that to some extent, but obviously you could have said "no"! To be honest, in your shoes I wouldn't spend any further time on it, having released it so it's available if necessary. You may like to do the occasional big update now and then though! I would hate you to think you've wasted your time though- as a way of being able to continue using Templot in the event of the proverbial bus changing its timetable, or nuclear Armageddon wiping out the servers, it would be reassuring to know that we can still access all our work!
