... topic: 941 Newbe Q's and Panics! posted: 28 Sep 2009 17:06 from: Ajax Hello All, Just taken the plunge and bought this highly recommended program and get designing my new layout in detail. I'm amazed at how powerful Templot appears to be... but eeeeeeeeekk! Working through the videos are helping me to understand how the program works, I've a few questions that remain unanswered, so if this is the right place to ask them (?) here go's.... 1. I plan to build the layout in OO 'finescale' and assume that the 'OO-SF' option in the gauge selection menu is the same? But what is OO-BF and OO-DOGAF etc? 2. I've used AutoCAD to design the layout outline to work out feasibillity etc, etc The layout will be approx 21ft by 13ft (in loft) and am trying to get the image into Templot- any help form anyone gone before would be very much appreciated. 3. The layout will be multi level. ...

... by the CPU overheating. To complicate the situation, this happened during a save operation and managed to corrupt the HD to a point where I found it necessary to re-format the drive, and re-install windows. Whilst the machine was switched off, I also removed and cleaned the CPU and renewed the heat sink compound before continuing. After I had put most of my main software back on the drive, I re-installed Templot. When the opening screen appeared I entered my release code and... Panic. A window appeared and told me this was the 'wrong PC' and was an Invalid Request. I tried again then uninstalled, reset and re-installed v0.74. I then noticed the internal reference number was different to the one I originally used to register the program. I tried v0.82d which generated an entirely different number and v0.91c which simply wouldn't run. I am puzzled because I always thought the internal reference number which is used to create the unlock code, is unique to the CPU. After an enquiry to the ...

... of conductive heat coming out. This is not overheating, it is a by-product of the design. You don't put an Apple laptop on your lap without insulation... The fan speeds set by Apple are fine. There should be need to alter these unless you are intensively gaming. And then you are better of with a Wintel tower. A few thoughts: 1). You are running a foreign OS over the Apple OS and hardware system. This can set up some interesting problems with graphics and kernel panics. I have a CAD program that continually puts circular lines behind the bottom layer on the drawing board. Only the circular ones. The straight lines are fine. If you put a plan in to trace, these lines disappear behind the import and refuse to come to the front. This is a fault that only shows up on this program when running in Windows on a Mac. I brought this to the CAD company's attention. Still haven't seen a fix after 8 months. This sounds a little like your problem with ...

... The most recently loaded shape(s) will be on top. There's another nifty trick for numerate users -- scale an individual shape by 1% to effectively make it unobtrusive. Then later scale it back again by 10000% (that's 4 zeroes) to return it to its original size. Select the shape in the list, then click the modify shape:> scale by... button each time. Take care not to inadvertently save a .bgs file with the shrunk sizes, otherwise you may have a temporary panic when you next load it! regards, Martin. posted: 7 Apr 2009 14:34 from: Andy G Martin, Thanks for the workarounds. I've had a play over lunch and separated the box file into two, one with boards and one with scans. This gives me greater flexibility, however, once both files were loaded I then used the scaling method to 'remove' the scans as it wasn't possible to close just the scan box. ... . You will see that the potential EU ban is NOT on DCM- it is on its use as a PAINT STRIPPER and I think the issue here relates to potentially using it in confined spaces, in large quantities spread thinly over large areas creating an unacceptabe vapour density- but this is not the use we are talking about. Just because something has a warning does not necessarily mean it is harmful FOR OUR PURPOSES- These days, EVERYTHING carries a warning and the purpose of these is to inform though too often they create panic. One of my issues with these catch-all "Warnings" is that they mask REAL issues. There are three Categories for carcinogens for example: Cat 1- proven to cause cancer in humans. Cat 2 proven to cause cancer in some animal studies. Cat 3 Limited evidence of cancer risk. As you noted, DCM is Cat 3- that means(given humanity's lengthy experience with it) that it is not a carcinogen. BUT petrol by contrast, contains a lot of benzene which is just about as ...

Exactly what, I'm not sure. I guess providing a Templot message as appears in 0.74b would be good! I had a panic moment when I just got Microsoft's "Bog off" box with no meaningful error message. It was the Templot error box in 0.74b that gave me a clue. I guess this is a low priority fix though as I can't think why anyone would install Templot on a machine that has no print drivers installed in normal use! Cheers, Howard Last edited on 31 Oct 2013 09:00 by JFS posted: 31 Oct 2013 11:34 from: Richard_Jones Hi Howard, Although I think there may be "clearance", it may be minimal. Although I think I could have done this with the "rolling vehicle" in Templot, but have tried it practically (see photo below!) on the templates (as panic sets in before construction proceeds too far!) As you say lever 15 from North Box operates the point between the bay and down loop but I wonder if ground signal (24) is interlocked with crossover (20) for movement even into the dock? I don't have a locking diagram, and am in two minds what to do with the actual layout- I am quite tempted to have a mechanical frame (for most of the points) with no interlocking at all (as per "Ferring") best wishes ...

Either because you are too tired, (when do most of use get the time to do these things?), or you are too eager. (I wonder how many Templot downloaders do so because they plan to start building a layout next week. An impossible time constraint is the kiss of death to any structured study. Too much pressure and panic is hardly conducive to learning). I didn't get a very good result the first few times I tried the tutorial. But after a short break, due to work pressures, I had the tutorial printed it out and bound at my local printers. Being able to read it off screen and really work out each section without moving windows around to find things helped me. To have the instructions and the work open at the same time and easily accessible was the difference for me. The other thing that slowed me down ...

... can, as many on this forum have shown, but there is a requirement that the user really has to turn on their brain first. The common problem is that Templot is a powerful program that requires time to learn and even more time to master. It also is really useful to learn something about real PW and how it is built. You can't, as many seem to expect, just boot it up and printout the perfect layout two hours later so you can show it off at the Saturday meet. Then the panic sets in. "I can't get this to work, it's no good". At the moment I can't get into the Windows side of my HD as Windows 7 has developed it's famous "I can't find your profile problem". But as I am replacing the HD on this machine in the next month I'll wait. But when I can boot up Windows I will spend some time in Templot playing with different leads and crossings, and practicing tandem formations as I may actually have to build one for the layout. ...

... , Apple desktop and laptop do support Flash. However Apple see Flash as a security issue so they and Adobe have been at odds regarding the program. Also Apple see Flash as a cross platform development tool that undermines their control of an OS. From their point of view the changes to the PC market place is creating a future where income protection for the company requires that sort of control. I don't think that the reasoning behind this decision, which is several years old, is entirely correct. It was part of the panic of "cloud computing" that gripped sections of Silicon Valley during the period. Along with the supposed death of the standard desktop PC. The video link you posted in the other section works perfectly well in Safari on my machine. Regards, Matt M. posted: 6 Mar 2015 22:12 from: Martin Wynne Thanks Matt. I personally don't like AV programs that won't let me over-ride the blocking and insist on calling home with information about what I'm loading on the computer. It is a little bit like being hacked in itself. Admittedly there was a list that appeared to include a choice of allowing Templot to run while AVG was having a panic but it disappeared faster than I could react. Allowing the pathway using the menu worked for me straight away. I only use AVG as I photograph records at the state archives and the computers there are public access. They had a major problem of things like shortcut viruses last year but finally have been keeping a better eye on those machines. While mostly working in the Apple OS occasionally I need to drop something into Windows. Mind you, AVG couldn't find one of the shortcut viruses on a scan of the USB even ...

The OS had already started to fall apart with OS10.9 Mavericks (well named). When I got my Mid 2014 Macbook Pro Retina I spent three weeks talking with the 2IC from Apples programming section. Four times a week he would make an appointment and ring from America. I had found three particular issues with the OS which caused kernel panics. Noe of the problems identified were really fixed and have led to some recurring issues for the OS since. The last three OS updates in the 10 series were about preparing the ground for the fully new OS 11 series. And yes that was designed around the RISC chip system. So dealing with new OS and new type of chip. In no particular order. 3. Yes Parallels is available on the RISC machines but 4. there is no bootcamp.
