... topic: 2428 Scissors Crossover posted: 23 Mar 2014 08:02 from: PeterD Hi all, I have put together templates to create a scissors crossing and have come across some potential issues. 1. I have modified the check rails but cannot work out how I can create the internal common crossing within the diamond. Can anyone help with this please? 2. What is the best way to isolate and connect the diamond crossing? 3. Is continuous checking through the formation correct? Thank you. Box file attached. ... topic: 2084 Dale Junction revised again posted: 21 Oct 2012 13:23 from: PeterD For reference: Original topic: topic 1836. The attached plan is very loosely based upon the Bath Green park in the station area. I have somewhat simplified the layout to reduce the dimensions but it should provide the essence of the operation. Intended operation Down passenger trains run into the Arrival Platform from the main line. Branch passenger trains use a branch platform or can be routed to the Arrival Platform across the up/down main running lines at the station throat. When passenger trains arrive, the locomotive is de-coupled and runs round the train to reach the engine shed area for servicing and turning as necessary. The Station Pilot takes the coaches to Carriage Sidings 1 or 2 releasing the platform. The Station Pilot assembles Up Trains from carriages in the sidings. The train locomotive then replaces the Station Pilot having been prepared at the engine shed area.Up passenger trains can be routed to either the main line or the branch line. ... topic: 1725 Dale Junction posted: 13 Dec 2011 11:28 from: PeterD I am very impressed with the TDV. I am in the process of designing a new layout on three 7' x 2'6" baseboards to connect with an existing layout at the other side of my railway shed. I previously used templot to create turnouts but thought I would have a go at using transition curves as a starting point. The feature of creating irregular diamonds on transition curves makes all the difference and is so easy to achieve. I also used 'Shapes' to create the outline dimensions of structures I intend to build. Overlaid these shapes within 'Sketchboard', with appropriate labels and have started to create the plan for the layout. All simple to do. 2184_130621_170000000.jpg The two diamond crossings will be converted to double slips later when I am satisfied with the track plan. This brings me on to the reason for posting this topic. I would welcome your views on this track plan at this early stage. Thank you for viewing. Peter posted: 17 ...

... topic: 2829 Dale Junction (OOSF) posted: 21 Jan 2016 17:19 from: PeterD A little background. Previously I have constructed trackwork using copper clad sleepers but now I am building using ply sleepers and chairs. I have found this a real challenge with the small parts to thread on the rails etc. It is not as strong as copper clad and care needs to be taken when moving the trackwork to the railway layout. This led me try and build the track in situ to avoid having to move it. I used foam backed wallpaper as an underlay. I found that this did not provide and absolutely flat surface and any pressure being applied distorted the surface (e.g. when trimming chairs). Things improved after I used the proper adhesive to secure the wallpaper. I am now starting again on the Northern approach but this time I shall assemble the track work on my work bench and transfer it to the layout. I am using balsa cement to secure the sleepers to the template and a firm base to secure the templates.I ...

This happens when Templot has been running for some time. I select text entry, place the cursor on the spot I wish to place it but I cannot edit the text in the 'modify' tab. It says nothing has been selected although the selection fence is surrounding the text. The same thing goes for rectangles. Clicking OK and then moving the cursor away from any object clears the selection. Click on the object and again it seems to be selected but the modify tab advises nothing is selected. Hi Peter, Probably because you are using a custom switch. Such a switch will always be locked in F5 because Templot has no way of knowing what other switch to use instead. However, it is much better to ignore all that out-of-date stuff and use a gaunt turnout or irregular diamond in Templot2 for the middle crossing. The crossing angle can then be adjusted with F9 instead of F5. More here ...

This has led me to the current design and I would again appreciate your comments. The basic station layout is similar to Bath Green Park. Trains from the branch and main lines terminate in the arrival platform. A carriage siding is located in the station and another carriage siding is between the up/down running lines. Goods and parcels trains are taken to the Goods/shunt line. The loco shed is located a few miles up the branch. This branch line already exists with all the facilities installed. There are 3 storage sidings fed by the up and down main. This is my first attempt in 00-SF and I wish to start construction when the gauges arrive and the plan is finalised. Control is by DCC.
