My rough sketch was very rough and the sides are near vertical: I have atached a photo that I took yesterday that shows this. I think it is possible that it came from the old Snailbeach Railway. Col. Stephens took it over in 1923 and re-laid much of the main line with 45lb rail according to the Col. Stephens Museum web site. If this type of rail was used previously there would have been plenty of it lying around to use for signs or whatever. I don't suppose the GW carted scrap like this around the country to use in this way. The line was GW/LNW joint and presumably GW/LMS joint after 1923. I have plenty of book buying and reading to do over the winter to find out more about the local railways. If you hover your mouse over it in Firefox you will see it becomes underlined, but is not clickable. This shows you that it is an anchor. The browser should scroll the page until the relevant anchor is at the top of the visible area. If you click the Reload button, it does exactly that. Also if you have previously viewed the page and it is already in your cache. But it's supposed to do it first time! If you can bear to change your default browser to IE for a moment, and then click a forum link in an email, you will see that it goes correctly to the relevant message anchor first time. The station will have eight platform faces plus limited goods facilitities. The loco shed consists of four roads plus a two road coaling stage and turntable. The station buildings will be overhead with access to all platforms via steps. Platform lengths vary although the longest platform will accommodate a seven coach train plus loco. What has really helped is having a full size print to set the board separation. Previously I would have just built four boards and then had to cut and rearrange track to avoid the board joins. Having the full plan means the sizes of the boards can be set to avoid pointwork and in particular the operating motors beneath the boards. I'm sure I will still have the usual ups and downs of layout construction but this morning has been a big step forward. ... again (albeit in cyberspace). Thank you for taking the trouble to think about the challenges of extending Mostyn's fiddle yard capacity Your approach effectively allocates one fiddle yard per direction. The appeal of this is that it is easy to understand and control. Furthermore the turnout control and wiring of the existing fiddle yard is such that it could be converted to single direction running with no problems- apart from, perhaps, a bit of switch rail fettling on turnouts that changed from trailing to facing in normal operation. This approach has previously been suggested by one of the Mostyn operating team members but I remain to be unconvinced and my logic (unsupported as yet by any attempt to use Templot to prove it) is as follows:- 1. Putting the new fiddle yard inside the existing one doesn't work because it doesn't deliver sufficient storage space. Then, looking at the option which has the new fiddle yard outside the existing one:- 2. In order to bring the existing fiddle yard into use as the new down fiddle yard (Up= Clockwise ...

... , I said no, and managed to get the Half Diamond Check Rail to function as expected. So I guess my question is: what settings is effecting this function? Can you clarify whether you are referring to the V-crossing check rails or the K-crossing check rails? A half-diamond template has both. There are some additional controls for shortening the V-crossing check rails on a half-diamond template to clear slip switches, which may account for the effect you saw, if these controls had previously been used. Check rails are the biggest headache and over the years I have changed the code several times to try to cover all the situations which arise. It is still confusing. The difficulty is to allow you to change them to whatever you want, but still have Templot know what to do with them when you change the crossing angle. Waiting in the wings is yet another implementation, a separate check rail function similar to the Shove Timbers function. You should be able to click on a check rail and manipulate ...

... storing again is the correct way to modify an existing background template. It's quite fast if you use the accelerator keys and keyboard shortcuts. This procedure is more usual when timber shoving and using partial templates. It's not often necessary when first creating a track plan. There is an option on the delete confirmation dialog "don't ask me again today" which will prevent the dialog appearing again in the session. Note that while deleted from the storage box, the template is no longer included in the rolling backup. If you have previously done a lot of work on it, haven't saved a file, and fear your power cable may be chopped through by a JCB* at any moment, you may prefer to wipe to the control instead. This keeps an unused copy of the template in the storage box, which will be backed up and which you can revert to at any time. If you work this way you will accumulate a lot of unused templates in the storage box, but they can all be easily deleted in one go when the design ...
