... topic: 3324 OpenTemplot- where next? posted: 4 Sep 2018 07:04 from: Martin Wynne It is now 3 months since I released Templot as open source. I spent a lot of time preparing the code to make it suitable for publication, and capable of being compiled in a readily available compiler. Then when there was some disagreement about the actual form of publication I spent more time splitting it into two options -- a conventional collaborative open source project (OpenTemplot), and a "home" version for users to tinker with for their own use (TemplotMEC). For a long time I had been reluctant to publish the code for Templot, fearing that it would create a flood of questions about the workings of the code, and requests for help in modifying and compiling it. Which on top of the usual help requests from users would be just too much to cope with. In the event I was completely wrong, and the actual result has been almost total silence. I know of no-one working on or ...

I have had a thought- which I am sure is completely unhelpful at this late stage- but I will make it anyway for what it is worth.... Would it be possible, to create a "Project" file at close (or during a session)? This would create and save its own .box, .bgs, etc and (say) a .tps (templot project settings) file. This latter could include all the current variables:- colours, pad (including zoom and position), generator and print etc settings. I have already spent many hours on it, and I can see that it will need many, many more hours before it is anywhere near fit to be released. The project title is also the title of your storage box. So first open the storage box by clicking the control> storage box menu item. Then on the storage box menus click the edit> box title... menu item. See the screen-shot below. A dialog then appears on which you can change the title to whatever you want. On the other hand, at present if it's showing on the switch settings when closed, it is currently still there if opened again, which is probably useful. The original "County" series OS maps pre-1936 used a separate projection datum for each county, with the result that sheets from neighbouring counties do not line up at the sheet edges. The scans have been resampled and geo-referenced by the NLS so that they do align seamlessly (mostly) to create a single "slippy" map and can be cross-faded to modern maps and aerial images.
