... Ballasting is in progress in the foreground. The Santa Fe Railway has running powers over these GWR metals, and a train will shortly be arriving in the bay platform on the left. hc_3pi_2.jpg Here is my track plan for Hopton Clee. I created it in Templot and then exported a DXF file using the 3D Solid option for the DXF. The screenshot above shows the result after importing the file into 3rd PlanIt. The coloured rectangle is my attempt to sink the sleepers (ties) in some ballast. I added a few sample structures from the 3rd PlanIt libraries to create better perspective effects. The 3rd PlanIt file for this plan can be downloaded from http://templot.com/3pi/hopton_clee_and_trains.3pi It can be opened and the trains run in the free demo version of 3rd PlanIt. You won't be able to draw additional tracks from scratch in that version or save files, but you can add further trains and buildings from the supplied libraries. Or import your own Templot track plan by exporting it from Templot as a DXF file. If you are ...

For the baseboard boundaries, to save re-drawing your plan every time you change the plan, you can use rectangle images which you can leave in position as the baseboard boundaries so that they will always be present (or not by selective choice). See sample image below. Please note, I have just arbitrarily set the image rectangles you can see, although they do start from the trackpad origin. Also note, I have removed the grid pattern for clarity. It does however, require you to set these rectangles up in the correct positions on the trackpad in Templot, then every time you post a box file, also post the rectangle image files and the sk81 file that way the baseboards will appear without the need for the overall track plan image. Alternatively, I can ...

However, this has to be programmed into each specific model of laser cutter. e.g.- which colour means which type of cut i.e. to set the power of the laser- which order to use each layer/ colour (you should do the half cuts first)- how deep to cut each layer. Usually you have to set this up by trial and error on a sample of your material. I do not know what instructions you have with your machine. You need to check focus. I read that you normally aim for 1/3 to half way through the material. You also need to support the material flat, but on some waste material that it does not matter if the laser cuts into it. It is almost impossible to print them to accurate sizes -- image printing software seems to vary a lot. The 4000 setting is not the resolution in dpi, it is the width of the image in pixels. You can change it to whatever you want. It won't change by itself. For the neatest result re-sample it down to a smaller size in your image editing software, rather than using smaller sizes in Templot.
