... topic: 3667 Exporting a track plan to create a mimic panel posted: 13 May 2020 09:59 from: Gordon S Hi Martin/Fellow Templotters I've decided to build a mimic panel for Eastwood Town as I'm struggling to mentally convert the schematic diagram within my ECoS controller to the totally curved shape of my own layout. I now have the required amount of LED's and controllers from DCC Concepts, so thought I'd make a start on creating the track plan. My first thought was to use Sketchboard, but once I started to enlarge the panel, the track edges became jagged. The final mimic panel is going to be something like 800mm long by 400mm deep. I can't say the exact size as it's going to be governed by the need to place LED's within the track lines. The bezels of the LED's are 7mm diameter. In total there will be at least 72 LED's on the panel showing the turnout detection of 36 turnouts. What is the best way of accomplishing this? Ideally I would like to add six platform faces and text ...

... topic: 1224 Anyone good at computer graphics? posted: 30 Aug 2010 03:38 from: Martin Wynne Dear all, My computer graphics skills are minimal. This is my best effort to represent a country goods shed with office extension, internal platform and awning over the loading doors. As you can see, it won't win any prizes: 2_292139_500000000.gif I saved it as a GIF image with transparent background. And this is what it looks like inserted on the sketchboard as a bitmap item. I rotated it into line with the track, stretched it to the correct size, and gave it a little transparency to show the internal track: 2_292139_510000001.png Now such objects can be drawn directly on the sketchboard with vector precision if desired. But it would be great to have a selection gallery of such clip-art items ready to just pick and place. Station buildings, engine sheds, signal boxes, water towers, cattle docks, coal drops, trees, etc. In a variety of sizes and attractive styles, perhaps some based on real locations ...

... first time -- which is difficult to believe. The same goes for several of the other new features -- platforms, gaunt turnouts, wrapping a picture shape along the control template, foot lines on FB templates, the dummy vehicle tool. Welcomed at the time, but since then -- silence. I can't believe they are all working so well first time that no one has anything to say about them. So I will confess that I'm a bit disappointed and wondering if I have taken a wrong turning. The sketchboard function took months of work and a considerable expense for the licence for the graphics engine. But only a few sketchboard screenshots have been posted here or on any other forums. Only a tiny handful of sketchboard SK9 files have been attached here for comment. Was I wasting my time? And if so, where to next? There are several extra functions I would like to add for my own use, but is Templot already too complicated for most users? Should I be looking at a "Lite" version where users ...

... topic: 2665 New items on the sketchboard posted: 1 Apr 2015 18:31 from: Martin Wynne For the next program update I have added a few more basic shape items on the sketchboard: square, triangle, arc, ring, segment, are new: 2_011318_400000001.png These provide a bit more flexibility in creating symbols and custom combined items. For example the ring will be useful for goods line signal arms on signal box diagrams. They can all be resized, stretched and rotated as before. And can be outlines, infill, or both, in any colours you wish, with adjustable transparency. For the arc and ring, the inner radius can be set as a% of the outer radius. Setting zero for this produces a full arc sector -- useful for coloured pie diagrams. 2_011318_400000000.png In the next program update. regards, Martin. posted: 7 Apr 2015 19:50 from: Andrew Duncan Martin A couple of small questions 1.
