The stock and check rails can be fitted using gauges, then the half chairs can be added in their respective places As it happens there is no noticeable gap showing on both EM& 00SF, I also do the same for standard 16.5 but if you look close a tiny gap is visible. ... The layout is governed by four, 3 way turnouts. Of the 4 three are mixed gauge. The town plan includes all rail lines in both gauges (more on that later) but I am struggling to make sense of the geometry. Clearly the draughtsman used a common sense approach to laying out the sidings etc. but I having difficulty locating the vees and any associated angles or track radius. Three excerpts are attached. 1. The station throat turnout highlights the fact that the mapmaker's attention had wavered as it includes an additional rail that goes nowhere. The detail on this turnout is a bit confusing in other areas too. 2. The next one along that governs entry to the goods yard appears to interlace a diverging BG only siding before the main vees of the 3 way (struggling to explain that clearly but hopefully the picture helps). Is that likely? Is it possible? In such an important location I would have thought the diverging rail would have been further down the line to avoid derailments but there isn't space to accommodate that. ...

However I have a horrible feeling the upper track is in fact a siding, in which case it needs to be at 10ft way, entered with a right-hand turnout. cheers, Martin. Gosh martin, your lines make mine look like total garbage I have simplified the track plan further (in addition to the common entrance to the 'goods yard' I just couldn't find a proper justification for a gravel shed to be connected to a platform line! ... : 1 Dec 2018 12:22 from: Nigel Brown In any of the non-commercial scales there's quite a high overhead in that a lot needs to be built; it takes time. I think the advantage of some ready-to-run EM trackwork is that it enables somebody to get started that much quicker, if only in laying down test tracks, or building an initial layout. I suspect it's also attractive to existing to EM modellers in that enables them to knock up a secondary layout fairly quickly, in addition to their main one, if they're so inclined, as well as doing bits (or all) of their main layout. As a 3mm/ft modeller I found the 3mm Society's introduction of 14.2mm gauge track bases very useful, even though my existing layout has hand-laid track throughout.
