... a switch is only that part of a turnout which comprises the moving points (blades), not the entire thing. You will get hopelessly lost in Templot if you refer to an entire turnout as a switch. startup_pad.png You can set up Templot for any scale, gauge and flangeway gap standards. There is a long list of pre-set gauge/scale combinations, but it is very easy to create your own custom settings. In fact the 7mm/31.5mm combination is already in there, with 1.5mm flangeways, designated 0-MF. This for use with the "industry standard" 0 gauge wheels, set to 29.2mm back-to-back (30.0mm max BEF). For the narrower S7 wheels I assume you are using narrower flangeways for full support and wider back-to-back. Templot can be set to whatever dimensions you are using. regards, Martin. 20 Aug 2010 16:32 from: Nigel Brown Never needed to do this, but just tried it. First of all set gauge/scale to S7. ...

... you were aware of Alan Ferguson's beginners guide? If not, could you please have a look at it. Then, with the eyes of a novice employing a scale from (1) encouraging/reassuring to (5) useless/disappointing and rate it as either one or the other or above or below 3. I would be grateful. After a number of years trying to get to grips with Templot (and failing!) I viewed Alan's beginners guide and proceeded to plan two layouts, one P4, the other 0-16.5 and then I used the templates to build the track for the P4 layout. The results can be seen here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php/topic/19096-wigmore-road-sidings/ The track for the narrow gauge layout is this winter's project. It's not a good idea to put a short turnout such as an A-5 in such a sharp ruling curve, the radius will be far too tight. Your main road curving at 1288mm is already near the bottom limit for 0 Gauge, so to have a turnout diverging from the inside it will need to be a very long turnout, such as a D-12. You can ease the radius a little by changing to a generic type of V-crossing. ... request. Is there another way? Hi Peter, Sorry, 90-degree and similar short-angle crossings are not directly supported in Templot. They are unusual on the prototype -- designs vary a lot and don't use conventional chairing for the vees. If you have a prototype drawing (there is a 1:1 drawing in the GWSG GWR track book, p.54 -- see below) you can create one using partial templates and much timber shoving. By the way, a 90-degree crossing is 1:0 angle -- a 1:1 RAM crossing is 45 degrees. The current bottom limit in Templot is 1:2. Below that the timbering algorithm falls over. I intend to reduce the limit to 1:1.5 in a future pug, but it will still need manual timbering intervention. If you are familiar with geometry and computer programming I'm sure you will see the problem with a 1:0 angle and hear the alarm bells ringing! regards, Martin. posted: 17 Sep 2007 20:03 from: ...
