... topic: 1486 irregular diamond-crossings posted: 17 May 2011 02:06 from: Martin Wynne This topic is about creating irregular diamond-crossings in TDV. Irregular diamond-crossings are those where the radii in the two roads differ in size or direction. This causes the K-crossing and V-crossing angles also to differ. The most common use for an irregular diamond-crossing is in a double junction. Last edited on 18 May 2011 16:17 by Martin Wynne posted: 18 May 2011 16:56 from: Martin Wynne There are 3 ways to create an irregular diamond-crossing: 1. Start with a regular half-diamond template. Change the K-crossing angle using F10 mouse action and/or change the V-crossing angle using F9 mouse action. In most cases change also to a curviform type of V-crossing -- real> V-crossing options> curviform V-crossing menu item. (For this method this setting is optional.) The best I can come up with is Model (as opposed to Real), i.e. somewhere where you set the current model track parameters. Cheers Nigel posted: 21 Jun 2011 06:07 from: its_all_downhill Hi Nigel, I have been looking at this as well but I think gauge is perfectly ok as that is what we are building our track to not necessarily to scale i.e building in 4mm could encompass OO, EM, P4, OO-SF etc which are all same scale but different gauge widths, so to me it makes sense to call it gauge. Having spent a good deal of time over the last couple of months learning/ relearning the intracacies of Templot that make this software so fantastic, I can now say that it's time to put down the mouse and keyboard and pick up some glue, sleepers and rail. Construction has started. I was able to print the many A0 size sheets of paper that was generated by Templot to a PDF file, use these to help cut the benchwork to size and then glue them down to the plywood ready for track laying. It's been about 12 years since I handlaid any rail so I'll have to make a soldering jig to build the turnouts. Sleepers are being laid and this can be a very therapeutic exercise in its own right. I've added a photo to show some progress. I don't use desktop icons, preferring to have all my regularly used programs in the quick launch menu instead (Windows XP in my case). It struck me that when I installed the TDV I would have two identical hard hat icons for both the normal and development versions of Templot with nothing to indicate which was which. That being the case I decided to modify the standard icon to create a red version for the TDV, attached here in a ZIP file. It should be placed in the C:TEMPLOT_DEV folder after being extracted from the ZIP file to a useful place on your PC. To have it show as the TDV icon, right click on the TDV EXE file and select "Properties", then "Change Icon" and browse to the C:TEMPLOT_DEV folder and double click the red icon. In the end I decided to go back and try again. Rather than having a crossover on a transition curve, it is now straight, though it might look better as a Y, but not entirely sure how to achieve that at present, but for now it works to give the overall idea for figuring things out. I also have added a single slip at the left end. I followed the tutorial video best I could and *think* I've got it right, but I'm not convinced of that. Might have messed the single slip alignment up somewhere along the way, not entirely sure. the plan is for a traverser each end, and the 3 long parallel tracks are planned to be hidden underneath scenery and accessed from the traverser.
