The discrepancies between google aerial views and OS maps has been discussed before, but I can't see at any time anyone has reached a conclusion. I have engineering drawings of some buildings- copied from original records, which I'm inclined to accept as accurate, but these do not tally up with the aerial view from either Google or Bing. The OS map again shows something different. It's enough of a difference that I would be reticent to scale the whole plan based on this discrepancy. Does anyone have any ideas, please? Or can point me in the direction of a previous discussion that reached a conclusion? (I did try searching but found nothing conclusive). But if you are looking for a more conventional CAD for use with Templot's DXF exports, a very powerful 2D/3D CAD package which is entirely free* is: ProgeCAD 2008 SMART (Proge is in Italy) It's based on the IntelliCad engine and uses AutoCad DWG/DXF as its native file format, so loading DXF exports from Templot is simple. Bearing in mind the cost of other full-featured CAD packages, this entirely free version is excellent and much more powerful than the other free and low-cost CAD programs available. There are some nag screens about upgrading to the Professional version when you first select several functions, but they all have "don't show this again" buttons -- so you are soon rid of them. *Free for personal/ non-commercial use only. Eventually found the trackwork (plus a Trans Pennine train approaching Sheffield Station) but no gardens. Much of the area was a dark splodge. Also, the screen size was small so I thought it might be an idea to download it onto Mac himself (why this was not do in the first place, I know not).
