... update it if necessary to make it compatible with future versions of Windows if I'm not able to do that. Assuming that is that anyone still wants to design and hand-build model railway track -- the hobby's demographic has changed a lot since I released the first public version of Templot 20 years ago. It's important to bear in mind that I'm an oily-fingered toolmaker, not an IT professional. I suspect that most Templot users are in the same boat. IT professionals tend to sprinkle their posts with abbreviations and terms that go over my head -- it's no good coming on here talking about GITs and YAMLs and VMs because hardly anyone here will know what it's all about, especially me. OpenTemplot was in a conventional collaborative code repository on Sourceforge. Adrian offered to help with the maintenance of that, but has not been seen here since. As instructed I installed programs called Tortoise and Mercurial on my system (I'm still not clear if I need only one or both or which), but there was nothing I could do with ...

Printer options. ==} Which ones? Not everything can be set up in advance until Templot has read the data from the printer. For example a user preference for colour printing is meaningless if the available printer is black and white only. Now I know the term 'Windows' is a red rag to a bull to you and some others on this list, but I can get two options 1. Fast print. Clicking this prints the entire file using the default printer, or the printer I have allocated, the print tray, paper size and aspect and the print quality. 2. Print. Clicking this brings up a list of available printers. By selecting one I get the properties drop down, select what I want and print. What I had in mind for Templot, ...

I see from RMweb that you have finished the baseboards and will soon be ready to start trackbuilding. However, I have a feeling progress will come to a full stop in two weeks time. I am happy with the design now, thanks! The one question I had is about the catch points Iain put in in three spots. Do these make sense in terms of placement and if so would the slip on the loop not be similarly protected towards the station end? Of course this layout is a bit like squeezing a quart into a pint pot so having looked again, that would be overdoing it. The question is more one of interest. The other thing I need to get my thinking hat on about is signalling. Unless I'm missing it I do not think this is covered in the diagram. ... :06 from: allanferguson Martin is quite right about making cuts around the proposed drilled hole; but I found it a bit of a fiddle. The comment about Copydex remaining flexible while PVA is rigid is also correct. My own (permanent) layout is laid on 6mm foam (cheap camping mat) with flexible adhesives; but I found that the only place where the trains were really quiet was where a section of track had been temporarily laid and not secured to the underlay atall -- not really viable in the long term. This stuff also gives problems maintaining horizontal and vertical alignment at rail joints, making some sort of rail joiner or functional fishplate necessary. Our group experience on "Burntisland" was that the closed cell foam caused difficulties at baseboard edges. Since this is an exhibition layout the question of noise doesn't really arise. Personally, if I was starting from scratch again, I might be tempted to forget about underlay altogether. Regards Allan F posted: 23 Dec 2011 14:58 from: Martin Wynne Ed Callaghan wrote: Martin ...

And I am particularly thinking of colour scheme, pad (including label positions etc), Generator, and print settings. The consequence of this would be that there would be a large number of different prefs files, each associated with a different project (or version of the same project). In terms of keeping the .box "current", I am suggesting that each time the "project" is saved, a new box (+ prefs, bgs etc) is created. "One of his tales, very apposite in view of Alan Blackburn's recent talk, related how, before WWI, a friend had a problem with crossing timbers on a piece of complex trackwork. They were due to ride on the LNWR inspection train, and there duly put the problem before the district engineer. He admitted he had no idea which alternative configuration was correct, but added that they were shortly to be joined by the division's most experienced ganger.
