... Hi Alan, Simon is looking for someone to wrap that onto a gentle curve, and transition down to sharper curves each end to run round into the fiddle yard. Anyone? The drawing is I think from the DRail program( http://www.drail.net/index_en.html ), using RTR turnouts. regards, Martin. posted: 5 Jan 2008 18:56 from: Martin Wynne Hi Simon, Unless I'm mistaken (far from unknown ), at present you do not have your own copy of Templot? Under the licence terms for Templot, members of this forum who don't know you can only supply Templot material to you in Templot's own file format( .box file). That means you would need your own copy of Templot in order to see it and print it out. On the other hand if you know a personal friend who has Templot you can get them to do this plan for you, as it would fall within their "personal use" of the program. Or if someone else does the plan for you, you could ...

The curved turnout is C-9.14 as you can see. The outer curve in the turnout is 7215mm which in N gauge terms is very gentle, but just enough to look curved and pleasing to the eye. In a sudden flash that it became obvious to me (which does not make it right of course) that we ought to keep the version numbers of OT the same as the version of T2 on which it is based. This would make it clear to users what they are using and what they can expect in terms of functionality. This system will work fine as long as OT is a subset of T2 i.e. has no new functions that are not in T2. Considering the contributions you have received so far, I don't think we need to worry unduly about this. Not for some while yet, anyway. So in terms of providing documentation I think that by and large I know what I'm talking about. If I was in Martin's position, I would do exactly what he is doing today, which is providing a vast, varied, flexible and structured pool of documentation through the Templot Companion. I'm attempting to design a modular railway, based on 4ft X 2ft units, that can be expanded over the years without ripping up too much of any earlier module, as space, time and money allow. (I hate throwing things away). The ultimate dream idea is to model a representation of Shrewsbury station, through to a fictional Cambrian Coast terminus, based on the 40's through pre-Beeching period; which allows at least GWR, LMS. LNWR,& BR livery. After due consideration I decided on XTrkCAD for the general design and Templot for the serious detail. I've decided on using an N gauge but since I'm more interested in trackwork than rolling stock I am having difficulty making a decision between code 55 and 40 and whether to go for finescale or not. I didn't realise I can adjust the slew factor, I'll have a play with that. I'd like the divergence, if that's the right term over 3500mm if that's possible (Scale7 now). It's an increasing seperation on a double-track, a lot like the stations on the line from Manchester Victoria to Wigan (i.e. Swinton- where I've had to do some work recently). The good looking appearance is achieved by prototypical timber spacing and Templot is a huge help here. In fact, I wouldn't be able to use handlaid track without Templot. Because Z gauge is very small I have decided to apply fixed timber spacing between all sections of the turnout. Like I mentioned, I am not a native speaker, although I know English well, it's hard to understand specific terms and options even if I use Google translate. I know there are 4 menus which I need to use to change timber spacing: switch section, closure section, wing rail, vee rail. But it's really hard to understand menu points without a picture explaining elements of the turnout since they are specific terms. Good news- I have done some experiments and I have achieved a good result. My timber spacing for a turnout is exactly what I need. The rest is done with the help of 'shove timbers' feature ...

The much bigger downside for me is that it renders hundreds of tutorial screenshots and thousands of video frames even more out of date than they are already. On the other hand, new users will be able to go for some time creating a track plan without ever seeing the full menu or such mysterious terms as "wipe to the control". Another related change is that pressing the DELETE key will reduce the length of the control template to zero. (CTRL+ U to undo, in the usual way, or simply extend the length again with F4). A zero-length template still exists of course, and you can create zero-length templates now if you wish (try it with F4). Not withstanding that, I've attached an image showing the three radii you're after overlaid on top of each other. The second issue- you can see that the crossings between the 42"& 36" (approx 1:14), and the 36" and 30" (approx 1:12) are very shallow.
