... on 9 Nov 2007 13:36 by Gordon S posted: 9 Nov 2007 03:34 from: Martin Wynne Hi Gordon, Welcome to Templot Club. Great to see an ambitious main line project. You're right that it's a challenging design, because you want to include as much as possible of your existing pointwork while hopefully creating a flowing "Templot" design for new handbuilt curved pointwork. Before you began handbuilding you sent me some scans of your existing 00 pointwork, which I matched for you in Templot. The straight turnouts were a good match to A-7, and the diamonds matched 1:7 too. The curved turnout was near a C-10, but not such a good match: gordon_scans.png gordon_scans_a7.png I tried using these for the CJF terminus plan, and managed to fit it within your 5400mm space, without losing any platform length. The goods yard access needed a changed design to keep a long enough head-shunt, but otherwise it's a straight conversion to 1:7 angle of CJF's original design. But it does ...

... topic: 3777 Red rails for below minimum radius posted: 21 Sep 2020 06:27 from: Jerry Goodwin I saw a forum post, which I now can't find again to link to, where Martin explained that with a certain series of steps one could end up with a turnout with a very short (like less than a foot at full scale) section of rail with less than the minimum radius. In that post, the offending bit of rail was shown as red filled, while the rest of the rail was not filled. My question is, where do I turn on below-minimum-radius rail highlighting? I've googled my fingers to the bone, and all I've discovered is that: The red rail (Aphanapteryx bonasia) is an extinct species of flightless rail. It was endemic to the Mascarene island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. which isn't close to the answer I was looking for, but might be effectively correct if I can't do it. I have searched the forums for any pointers/tips but can't seem to find a definitive tutorial or guide to the basic steps and principles to be followed; I would prefer to understand the sequence of producing the turnout rather than ask for a single solution as this way I can further my learning/understanding. My best guess is that the steps would be something along these lines... Created base turnout (standard gauge- GoG-F) which in this case is a GWR 9ft regular crossing v5. Store ...

First let me explain why I am asking the questions, on several occasions I have been placing turnouts onto my background track layout plan, and have found that in these cases, no matter what I do I cannot get both the main and turnout sides to align with the plan track lines. In some of these cases, I have aligned the main side and then altered the adjoining track-work for the turnout side to mate up with that end (but I am not absolutely sure this is what I should really do), (I know, someone will scream the dreaded words "compromise"). I have tried ringing the changes, such as changing from B to C or D type turnouts (and/ ...

Attached to this post is the box file and the next two posts contain the two screenshots at the time the issue occurred. I do hope I haven't done anything wrong this time The starting template was a 1:12 curviform turnout in a length of straight track and I just let Templot proceed through the process without any changes when asking for the tandem. I did have an issue earlier when a stock rail in the 2nd v-crossing was not lined up but the issue above occured when I was trying to re-produce it. I will let you know. Please see the attached PDF for the prototype info. I started off with a generic american template that I found on this forum and tried to modify it. I start off by having the generic template active and pick slot 8 for the remake. I answer yes, adopt the switch from the control template for slot 8. Then I press custom again and enter new or modified data. I name the new turnout: Conrail #8 16'-6" switch for bolted 119lb rail (1979 drawings) Next question is the type of switch, thats easy, its a straight switch. Next is the lead length to heel. ... Good morning chaps! I posted this question on RMWeb and Mr. Wynne suggested here might be more fertile ground for discussion. I've got a relatively simple arrangement of trackwork in my station throat, which I have divided for ease of construction into three meta arrangements of A, B and C: ATzhaRq.png I tink A and C are relatively straight forward- simple B6 crossovers though C has an extra B6 interleaved. The issue appears to be with the formation at B- as Martin has pointed, it is not possible for both turnout routes to be occupied simultaneously (in model form) without there being a conflict. Now, this isn't something that keeps me up at night: I'll be a sole operator and if not I find it hard to believe that this will be a frequent enough conflicting movement to cause problems (seeing as the bottom right road out of the junction is a carriage siding). However, as I've yet to lay track and everything else is ramrod-straight B6's, I thought this might be an interesting opportunity to re- ...

... want to spend my time making track and loco's not playing with a computer. I my opinion, the purpose of Templot is specifically so that you can design templates based on prototype track knowledge. If you don't have that knowledge, you can only use Templot as a generic template or layout design tool, and you're not making best use of it. For instance, I have layouts with all templates based on WC&PR trackwork from the early 1900s, or Festiniog Railway based on 1960s trackwork where I've actually gone and measured turnouts in detail, or GWR templates based on the GWSG book. You can only transfer all that into Templot- no other program that I'm aware of can give you that. I'm hesitant to say this, but if you just want to spend time making track then maybe Templot isn't for you. If you want to spend time making track that conforms to prototype standards, then Templot is for you. There is also a disturbing tendency for Templot to become a hobby in its own right I've got loads of layouts Templotted that ...

... Rob Manchester Hi Martin, I think you are doing fine. I can appreciate the difficulties of pitching the information at the right level given such a varied user-base. A user who is new to any software must be prepared to practice, make mistakes and learn- that is how we live all of our life. Explaining the storage box concept is going to be a tricky one as you say. Understanding the concept of the control template and background templates is key to Templot, at least when you move past single turnout design. Are you able to have mouseover prompts for the menu when a user clicks on a background template? A quick prompt as to the use of the make, copy and delete etc may be handy before a beginner ends up with no templates left in the storage box( or duplicate copies of some). Just a thought- you could maybe have a prompt 'off' setting savable in stored preferences. Keep plodding through- the docs/videos will make a huge difference to Templot. Regards Rob posted: 29 ...

It is closer in length to the original yard with 3 sidings where one siding faced in the other (southerly) direction, like a headshunt?, towards the hamlet. The layout is limited to 600mm in length but the plan is more than 600mm long. The ends will protrude into the off stage area. I've left them a bit raggedy as that can be cleared up 'on-site'.
